What is A.I.?
AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, which is a collection of technologies that allow computers to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence:
Problem-solving: AI can solve complex problems by processing large amounts of data and finding patterns.
Learning: AI systems can learn from data and use logic and decision trees to reason and self-correct.
Decision-making: AI uses technologies to mimic human decision-making.

Check out the cartoons below and their explanations. These cartoons show some Ethical Dilemmas involved with the use and creation of Autonomous Vehicles. Ethical dilemmas are choice where you have to decide between two options, but neither choice feels completely right or easy. It's a situation where you have to think about what’s fair, kind, or right, and sometimes, it’s hard to know the best answer.
"AI systems cannot figure out the solution to ethical dilemmas on their own. Doing so would imply that the machine has become a moral agent, capable of discerning right from wrong without explicit oversight.
While some AI researchers are exploring the possibility of machines calculating ethical behaviors in novel situations from a set of abstract principles, we are far from achieving this goal. In the meantime, it is humans who should bear the responsibility of thinking about, and ‘solving’ ethical dilemmas in a way that is at least defensible.
AIs will simply maximize the objectives we give them. It is up to us, humans to specify the objectives and constraints that guide machine behavior.".
"Wealthy people have always been able to afford more safety—they can buy bigger, heavier cars equipped with more airbags and the latest safety systems. This phenomenon is unlikely to reverse in the foreseeable future.
This raises an important question: Will people with higher socio-economic status have greater access to AI’s benefits? Or will these benefits be shared more widely?
In the Moral Machine experiment, which presented people with ethical dilemmas about who a driverless car should save in an unavoidable accident, our participants believed status should be taken into account. All else being equal, a business executive was almost 40% more likely to be spared in a dilemma involving unavoidable harm, compared to a homeless person.".

Were there scenarios where you felt especially conflicted? Why?
How might cultural or personal biases have impacted the decisions you made?
Did you feel that any of the scenarios presented were unfair or unrealistic? Why?
Do you think an AI system would make more "fair" decisions than humans? Why or why not?
