Dr. Ahmad Yasser Afaghani earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Robotics from the University of Tsukuba, Japan in 2012 and 2015, respectively. He got a B.Sc. in Industrial Control and Automation, Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Aleppo in 2005.
He conducted 3-year research during master studies in the field of mobile robotics at the Intelligent Robot Laboratory (Roboken), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Shin’ ichi Yuta. He developed the control system of an Omni-Directional mobile robot with three active caster-type wheels. Furthermore, to make the system easy to use by the next researcher, he built a user-friendly library.
The doctoral dissertation was conducted at the Manipulation System Laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yasumichi Aiyama. In it, he built a collision and deadlock avoidance system of n-robot industrial manipulators which are controlled using point-to-point commands in on-line mode. He developed an advanced collision map concept for detecting the collisions of the robots and representing them as collision areas on a single 2D-space map. Furthermore, the map was used intelligently to avoid deadlock cases among robots.
he has intensive experience in teaching in academia for more than 8 years, where his last role was as an assistant professor Departement of Mechatronics Engineering, KTO Karatay University from 2015 to 2022.
Currently, he is a Senior Expert at Tetra Tech company, where he provides consultation for many projects related to smart farming.
He has many teaching interests such as Industrial Control, Mobile Robot Fundamentals, Industrial Robot Fundamentals, Computer Programming, CAD using Solidworks, Digital Circuits, Microcontrollers, Mechatronics Design, and Sensors.
