Dr. Quan Xiong is an Assistant Professor of Department of Electromechanical Engineering (EME) and Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR), Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau. He serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE RA-L.
He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Edinburgh, specializing in soft robotics, electrostatic actuation, and multi-modal robotic mechanisms. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2024, where he focused on developing electrostatic attraction-inspired soft actuators and multimodal robotic systems with adaptive stiffness, multimodal locomotion, and enhanced task performance. Prior to that, he earned his M.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2020 and his B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering from Harbin Engineering University in 2018. His research has been published in high impact journals such as IEEE T-RO, IEEE T-MRB, IEEE T-MECH, Soft Robotics, Adv. Sci., and Adv. Intell. Syst. He has collaborated with research teams from MIT, NUS, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, advancing innovations in soft robotic actuation and control.
