Whitney Young Science Olympiad
The Best STEM Activity Offered at WY!
This is the Whitney Young Science Olympiad team's eleventh year. Members of the Science Olympiad team compete in 23 events focusing on different branches of science. Each team member works with a partner in 2-4 events. Team members go to competitions against other schools from the city, state, and region in the winter and spring.
Some events involve taking a test (written/test events), some involve completing a lab (lab events), some involve building a device and testing it directly at the competition (build events), and others are a combination of these. You can see a list of events here. Science Olympiad meets every Friday after-school (3:30 - 5PM) with special building meetings on Wednesday after-school.
The Division B team is for Academic Center students as well as 9th graders who attended the Whitney Young Academic Center. The Division C team is for students in grades 9 - 12 and is split into Varsity and Junior Varsity sections. Members of the varsity and junior varsity teams prepare and compete together only the varsity team (along with some select JV members) can compete at State.
