Classroom Signs

 Teaching science is complex.  It's not just memorizing facts, it's learning how to think, how to question, and how to solve problems.  Instruction needs to be thoughtful and intentional.  These three questions are on the classroom walls and guide instruction: 

Signs to inspire students!  Have some fun and let your personality come out in your room.

Science Log and Journal

This is an important tool in any science class.  It is not only for organization, but a place for students to record their thoughts and deepen their understanding.  Students express their understanding of scientific concepts as they develop models, record data, and use evidence to explain scientific processes.  It also helps improve students organization, provides reference materials, and resources for test preparation.

Connections

Making connections throughout the unit is important and time needs to be set aside to allow students to make these connections.  This is one way to get students to reflect throughout the unit of study.

Reflection

Students self-assess early in the year to set goals and have more success.  This is also nice to share with parents when conferencing with them.

Developing your style with evidence

Teachers are practitioners that are actively involved in the practice of education.  Everything educators do should be supported by the evidence of its effectiveness.  This may be the seating arrangement, classroom expectations, or the use of textbooks and computers, To often, teachers move away from practices that have had proven results due to another opinion or a new theory.
