PART 15: ROCESTER TO ALTON
PART 15: ROCESTER TO ALTON
Part 15 of my walk following the Staffordshire Way. I park the car in Rocester once again, as there is no bus or train needed for todays walk. I continue to the village of Alton (Next to Alton Towers) using the Staffordshire Way, via the outskirts of the village of Denstone. I then have a little walk around the village of Alton before heading to the Churnet Valley Railway Walk to head back to Denstone, and then using the roads and JCB lake I make my way back to Rocester (The return walk is in a seperate video). There was a bit of waffling that I cut out of the video, a story about Alton Towers which I have added to the bottom of this page..

The pictures below were taken on the walk back from Alton to Rocester, using the Churnet Valley Railway Walk and JCB World Headquarters lake and were not on The Staffordshire Way

Early on in the video as I left the village of Rocester I was talking a lot of nonsense that I edited out of the video. I was telling a story about Alton Towers, but I cut the footage as it sounded a harsher story as I told it on camera than it actually was. Plus I went on for a bit too long.
THE ALTON TOWERS STORY: When I was around 17/18 I went on a daytrip to Alton Towers with a load of lads. Before we went, I had said I will come along but I don't really go on the rides. We hired a minibus and when we arrived we headed straight towards The Corkscrew (Thats how old this story is) as everyone else headed for the newer rides, at that time the original Nemesis was the newest attraction, and as the gates opened everyone ploughed towards that way. One of our crew who took charge, with a park map in hand, and military precision said the crowds are heading that way, we go this way as it will be quiet. (This is a ploy I still use today) We arrive at Corkscrew to no queues and the lads start queuing, not many in the queue and I stand alone, one lad (The leader, I will call him M) says you may as well stand with us when the ride starts you can just walk off, so I join them in the queue, the ride starts going and we are at the front of a very small queue, the lads are about to get in, M says you have to get in, or walk back through the queue with us all shouting chicken, or I can step in the coasters car and get out the other side, as I step in, M says sit down and I will take your photo so it looks like you have been on it. I get in, He said pull the thing down, (The harness thing), I pull it down in the front seat, M sits next to me, The harness won't come back up. I panic, M says you will thank me for this, (For weeks he had been trying to talk me into going on rides and I was like, no way) The ride starts, I close my eyes calling M all the names under the sun, not family friendly. the ride gets to the top and I'm in fear, still shouting, M says look at the view, I slowly open my eyes briefly and look around, it was an impressive view, but I soon realised as we slowly turned heading for the first drop where I was and what was about to happen, I started to rage again, we went over and down, it was not as fast as I thought it would be, by the second loop I was not shouting and more actually enjoying the ride. We got off and he was correct, I not only thanked him but wanted to go back on, as it was early and not yet busy, we went on again, and again, a few times until everyone else was getting bored, straight after that we went on the nearby Aladdin's carpet type ride, which I loved and a few more times, followed by the Black Hole, The Beast, every rollercoaster there, apart from Nemesis, I chickened out of that one, saying I'm not quite ready for that. Although upon going again a year later I went on it, and have been on all the coasters (Apart from Smiler and Spinball one) I don't think I could ever do Spinball, I don't like being spun, even more recently when we went I tried the newer rides Rita and Thirteeen. I also have been on every ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach (That were there when we last went) but I wonder if it were not for that day I may have always been scared and never rode one.
That was the story I was trying to tell briefly but it sounded more like I was bullied, rather than tricked. The second waffle I sped up in the video I was saying how my phone had been playing up all morning with my location not working, it sounded like an excuse for why I was going wrong on the walk. lol, plus it went on a bit.
