LENGTH: 46 Miles
The Staffordshire and Worcester Canal is a 46 Mile Canal running through the Staffordshire and Worcestershire countryside, skirting the outskirts of Wolverhampton along the way. I'm going to be walking the canal from the Northern end at Haywood Junction where the canal meets the Trent and Mersey Canal and eventually finishing up at Stourport on Severn where the canal meets with the River Severn.
Starting at Haywood Junction the canal makes its way to Millford via Tixall and then curving the outskirts of Stafford to the village of Acton Trussell. The canal continues through Penkridge before making its way to the outskirts of Wolverhampton where it meets with the Shropshire Union Canal and Birmingham Mainline Canal, its then off to the village of Wombourne, then Kinver before passing through Kidderminster and making its way to Stourport where it terminates on the River Severn.
STAFFORDSHIRE AND WORCESTER (PART 1)
In part one of my walk along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, I begin at Haywood Junction and starting along the towpath I soon pass over the River Trent, through Tixall Wide and leave to have a quick look at Milford Common which the canal runs close by and is the outskirts of Cannock Chase and start point for the long distance Heart of England Way path. I continue crossing over the River Sow and finish this part of the walk at St Thomas's bridge at Baswich (Bridge 101)
STAFFORDSHIRE AND WORCESTER (PART 2)
In Part Two of my walk along the towpath of The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal, I continue from St Thomas Bridge in Baswich where part 1 finished. I walk along to the village of Acton Trussell finishing at Acton Bridge. Passing Radford bank along the way.
STAFFORDSHIRE AND WORCESTER (PART 3)
In Part Three of my walk along the towpath of The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Starting this section where I finished in part 2 at Acton Bridge and continuing along to Penkridge, finishing at Penkridge Bridge (Cannock Road) next to the Boat pub. There's time for a quick look around Penkridge at the end of the video.
STAFFORDSHIRE AND WORCESTER (PART 4)
The fourth part of my walk along the towpath of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Starting at Penkridge Bridge where I finished in part 3. The walk was done on a rainy day in January. Picking up the towpath we continue through the Staffordshire Countryside once the canal leaves Penkridge, eventually making my way underneath the A5 Watling Street at Gailey before continuing to Four Ashes ending this section at Calf Heath Bridge. STAFFORDSHIRE AND WORCESTER (PART 5)
Part 5 of my walk along the towpath of The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Starting this part of the walk where we left off in part 4 at Calf Heath bridge (bridge 77) at Four Ashes, Staffordshire. We continue down passing Hatherton Junction where the canal meets with the now disused Hatherton Branch Canal and finish at bridge 70 (Brinsford bridge) which carries the A449 Stafford Road across the canal near Coven.
STAFFORDSHIRE AND WORCESTER (PART 6)
Part 6 of my walk along the towpath of The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Starting Brinsford bridge where we finished up in part 5 and continuing along the towpath to Aldersley Junction where the canal meets the Birmingham Mainline Canal. We also pass by Autherley Junction where the canal meets with the Shropshire Union Canal.
STAFFORDSHIRE AND WORCESTER (PART 7)
Part 7 of my walk along the towpath of The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Starting at Aldersley Junction I make the short walk to Compton bridge, passing the South Staffordshire Railway Walk and Smestow Valley along the way. The towpath was closed at Compton so I filmed an alternative walk back at the end of this video.
STAFFORDSHIRE AND WORCESTER (PART 8)
Part 8 of my walk along the towpath of The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Starting at Compton Bridge in Compton and continuing back out along the towpath into the open countryside to Bratch Locks in Wombourne.
STAFFORDSHIRE AND WORCESTER (PART 9)
Part 9 of my walk along the towpath of The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Starting at Bratch Locks in Wombourne I make the short walk along the towpath to the village of Swindon. Finishing up at Swindon Bridge (40)
STAFFORDSHIRE & WORCS (PART 10)
Part 10 of my walk along the towpath of The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Starting at Swindon Bridge (40) on the High Street of Swindon Village where we finished up in part 9, I continue along the towpath to Stourton Junction where the Staffs & Worcs Canal meets with the Stourbridge Canal. Passing Hinksford, Greensforge and Prestwood along the way.
STAFFORDSHIRE & WORCS (PART 11)
Part 11 of my walk along the towpath of The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Starting at Stourton Junction where the Stourbridge Canal meets the Staffs and Worcs and where we finished in part 10. In this video I make the short walk to Kinver Bridge next to The Vine Pub, Kinver passing through the Dunsley Tunnel along the way. Then a quick explore of Kinver village to finish the video.
STAFFORDSHIRE & WORCS (PART 12)
In Part 12 of my walk along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. I Start at Kinver Lock and bridge where we finished in part 11 and make my way to Wolverley, passing under Cookley along the long the way via the Cookley Tunnel, There is more sandstone embankments, a tunnel and a cave next to a lock to be seen on this section.
STAFFORDSHIRE & WORCS (PART 13)
Part 13 of my walk along the towpath of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal, continuing from Wolverley Lock next to the Lock pub. We walk along the towpath soon entering the outskirts of Kidderminster and then passing through the town centre to the far end, finishing up at Round Hill bridge next to the Watermill Pub on Stourport Road. THERE IS AN EXTRA FOLLOW UP VIDEO (See bottom of page) where I walk back from The Watermill to The Lock pub via two of the towns parks and the town centre.
STAFFORDSHIRE & WORCS (PART 14)
The final part of my walk along the towpath of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal, continuing from Round Hill bridge next to the Watermill pub in Kidderminster, we walk along the towpath to the River Severn at Stourport on Severn. This is where the canal meets the river. We continue through picturesque countryside and red sandstone rocky areas soon passing under Falling Sands Viaduct which carries the Severn Valley heritage railway and then on to the basins of Stourport. With a quick look around Stourport at the end. This is the end of this canal series.
