PART 16: ALTON TO HAWKSMOOR
PART 16: ALTON TO HAWKSMOOR
Part 16 of my walk following the Staffordshire Way. I park the car at the small car park at Hawksmoor and firstly do the return walk to Alton (As we did this as a circular walk) making a short walk following the Staffs Way to Stoney DI, we leave the Staffs Way by turning left onto the quiet lane and make our way to the village of Oakamoor. We have a quick explore of parts of the village before backtracking slightly to join the Churnet Valley Railway walk, this is the northern end of this walk, we use the railway and make our way back to Alton Station where I joined the railway at the end of part 15 of this walk. We leave the railway at Alton and head up the hill along the road to the village after a quick stop at The Talbot Pub. Then a quick walk up to Alton Castle before heading back to Hawksmoor along the Staffordshire Way. We head out of the village and make our way to Toothill Woods, where the path is steep and stunning, then down and we head towards the Ramblers Retreat which was a lovely suprise, we stopped there for a bite to eat and drink before continuing through the forest and making our way back to Hawksmoor. We could hear distant rollercoasters roar and screams in the distance on this section of the walk
