Everything you need to know about Inclusive Access all in one place
Inclusive Access (IA) provides students with digital course materials on the first day of class through Canvas. Instead of purchasing a textbook separately, the cost of required materials is automatically billed to the student’s Western account.
Students receive access to their required digital course materials on the first day of class through Canvas. No waiting for a textbook to arrive or purchasing materials separately.
All Inclusive Access materials are delivered digitally through VitalSource, Western’s IA platform. Depending on the course, materials may include textbooks and courseware from publishers such as McGraw Hill, Cengage, and others.
Students can access their IA textbooks through the VitalSource Bookshelf, which is available directly through Canvas.
Students are automatically enrolled in Inclusive Access when they register for an IA course. The cost of the required materials is then billed to their Western student account.
Inclusive Access pricing is negotiated course-by-course, which means students can often receive their required materials at a lower cost than purchasing them individually.
Inclusive Access is designed to make getting course materials easy, but students still have a choice. If a student decides to purchase their materials elsewhere, they may opt out of the program by the applicable deadline:
Full-semester courses: By the drop/add deadline
Block courses: Within one week of the first day of class
Inclusive Access (IA) makes getting your course materials easier, faster, and more affordable.
