Inclusive Access is designed for required course materials that are suitable for digital delivery. Digital materials may not be the best fit for every course. If the material is optional, recommended, or not required, Inclusive Access is not appropriate for the course. When completing your adoption, please select another format, such as an eBook or print copy. If you prefer a print copy, simply request the print format when completing your adoption and select “No” for the Inclusive Access Interest option.
Textbook adoptions are done through Verba Collect prior to the start of the semester. Emails are sent out to faculty containing adoptions information and the link to submit adoptions. For step-by-step instructions on adoptions navigate to the faculty button above.
Interested in using Inclusive Access for your course? It’s easy! When completing your adoption in Verba Collect, simply enter the ISBN for your required course material and select “Yes” for the Inclusive Access Interest option. Once your adoption is submitted, the Bookstore will review the requested ISBN to confirm that the material is available through Inclusive Access. If the ISBN is not available through IA, the Bookstore will contact you to discuss the available options and help find the best solution for your course.
Once you submit your textbook adoption, the Bookstore team reviews the materials to determine the best available format and option based on your adoption. If any changes or adjustments are needed—such as an updated edition, out-of-print title, or unavailable format—the Bookstore team will contact you by email to discuss the options and find the best solution for your course. No action is needed unless the Bookstore reaches out to you.
Once you have selected Inclusive Access materials for your course and the bookstore has approved your adoption, there are still a few steps to complete. As the instructor, you are responsible for setting up your course materials in Canvas before class begins. For read-online materials, you will need to add the VitalSource link to your Canvas course. If you are using courseware, you will need to deep link the materials into your Canvas course. If you are teaching multiple sections even if they are using the same materials, be sure to set up each section individually. For step-by-step instructions on setting up your Inclusive Access materials in Canvas, visit the faculty page above.
Need to make a change to your course adoption? Please contact the Bookstore as soon as possible and let us know what needs to be updated.
The last day to make changes are as follows:
Spring-December 1st
Summer-May 1st
Fall-July 1st
Please make sure your syllabus lists the correct course materials for the current semester. Reviewing and updating your course materials each semester helps ensure that students receive access to the correct materials for your course. To make this easy, the faculty page above includes a ready-to-use Inclusive Access syllabus statement that you can copy and paste directly into your syllabus.
If a student is unable to access their Inclusive Access materials, first check your course setup in Canvas. Make sure you have added the VitalSource link for read-online materials or deep linked the courseware if your course uses publisher materials. Also verify that you have selected the correct materials and that they are properly set up and connected in your Canvas course. If you need assistance with setting up or connecting your Inclusive Access materials in Canvas, please contact the Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) for help.
