Malnutrition is considered as a root cause leading to the young child deaths in the last years. It is estimated that there are 7,000 young child deaths per year in Vietnam, with malnutrition being an underlying factor to the child mortality rate 2.5 – 8.4 times.
Nutrition Technical Program of WV Vietnam aims to reduce malnutrition in children under five years of age through integrated interventions, which is designed with three strategic objectives:
Adequate dietary intake is ensured for mothers and children;
Mothers and children are protected from illnesses;
Effective policies and practices are in place. The interventions are designed and implemented in integrated ways to render comprehensive impact on the children’s health through implementing core technical models, include Positive Deviance/Hearth (PDH), Timed and Targeted Counselling (TTC), Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), Household Water Treatment Store (HWTS), livelihood models.
