Wollongong University Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Society (WUDFA) is the faculty club for the discipline of Politics and International Studies (PAIS). We welcome all PAIS students as well as interested students from other faculties.
WUDFA hosts a variety of events throughout the academic year, including:
Careers Events and Workshops (including skill development workshops, networking events and guest speaker Q&A sessions)
Model United Nations (MUN) conferences (both our own events and sending UOW students to other universities)
Frontier Journal of International Affairs (where students can contribute as both editors and authors, and be published in a peer-reviewed academic journal before graduation)
Collaborations with other UOW academic societies from Humanities and Social Inquiry
Social events, including monthly General Members Meetings and the annual Arts and Humanities Ball.
As a society, our purpose is to create a platform for intellectual debate and discussion, to highlight the importance of governance and peaceful resolution, and for students to further their own careers in international affairs and relations by enabling them to gain important skills and extracurricular participation.
We aim to support PAIS students in their studies and extracurricular activities, and to facilitate insightful discussion of dynamic and complex issues, in areas such as international law, economics, history and foreign affairs. Our events and programs are all implemented with this in mind, and brought together by fellow students who are passionate and dedicated to supporting all those interested in politics and international relations, during their time at university and after their degree is complete.
The Wollongong University Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Society acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which the University of Wollongong campuses are situated and all society events occur. We pay our respects to Indigenous cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging, for they hold the memories, traditions and knowledge of Indigenous peoples and communities across Australia.
The UOW Wollongong Campus is on Dharawal land, now and forever.
The Wollongong University Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Society is committed to creating and celebrating a diverse and inclusive community. As a functioning society, we will continue to support all students in academic and personal hardship. We will continue to stand against exclusion, and maintain efforts to deter all discriminatory behaviour and acts towards race, heritage, belief, ideology, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, among other groups that may face social inequity.
The Wollongong University Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs Society is committed to keeping our activities and events COVID-safe for the health, safety and security of all members. To this end, WUDFA encourages our members to follow all COVID-safe practices for its activities and events, including the use of hand sanitiser, masks and social distancing, and the implementation of various online events and programs, within New South Wales and national health guidelines.
We understand that the pandemic has caused much hardship and difficulty, and we hope to provide an enriching experience to all of our members. WUDFA kindly requests that students comply with all rules imposed during its events, and that they remain at home when feeling unwell, asked to isolate by an official health authority, or return a positive RAT or PCR test.
