To get a position on Group Staff you must contact the Group Commander or the SASI. You will be either approved or denied based on your character and abilities to take on the tasks of your position.

Top Staff consists of the Special Assistant, the Inspector General, the Command Chief, the Group Commander, the Deputy Group Commander, and both of the Squadron Commanders.

Promotions occur every semester if you have not gone through ISS that semester, you are not expelled, you have at least a 2.0 GPA, you have at least a “B” average in JROTC, and if the SASI and ASI believe that you are capable of maintaining your position well.

Cadets interested in being part of Group Staff the next school year must be trained by the current cadet in the Staff position. All positions must train a sophomore or junior cadet to fill the position by the next year.

A POC is required to manage their chosen Curriculum in Action (CIA) trip. The POC stands for point of contact, which means that the POC will be the cadet that one must reach out to in regards to questions about the CIA trip or to attend the trip. To volunteer as a POC, you must contact the SASI to confirm any information necessary to sign up.

LDRs stand for Leadership Development Requirement. LDRs tend to be extracurricular activities, but some are during the school day, such as Flag Detail. In order to join a LDR, one must contact the commander of the desired team. Each one has its own requirements and rules, which you have to follow in order to maintain your spot in the team.

The Chain of Command is listed on the staff chart provided each semester. In order to ask questions or enact a major change in your position, you must follow the Chain of Command unless strictly given permission from the Group Commander, SASI, and ASI. Not following the Chain of Command may have major consequences.

A Commander's Call is a meeting amongst all cadets to introduce the AFJROTC Unit's goals for the year and to introduce the Group Commander and Deputy Group Commander each semester. A Commander's Call may be scheduled for other important events as well. Commander's Calls help to educate cadets on what to expect for the upcoming semester/year.

After Action Reports consist of a detailed report of observations made, lessons learned, overview of performance, evaluation of events related to one's position, and core capabilities shown. All information documented in the report must relate to your position on Group Staff. Positions marked with an asterisk (*) need to fill out AARs by the end of the season if they are a team/LDR commander or by the first Group Staff meeting in May if not.

Staff Reports are submitted in the inbox system in the middle room. Empty paper copies should be available near the inbox system for submission. Staff Reports must be submitted as instructed to the respective boxes. If your Group Staff position falls under the Knight Squadron, you would put your Staff Report inside of the Knight Squadron box. Similarly, if your Group Staff position falls under the Support Squadron, you would put your Staff Report inside of the Support Squadron box. If your position falls into neither, as most Top Staff members do not, ask the Group Commander or SASI/ASI for guidance or check who you report directly to.

The SASI is the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, who instructs the upperclassmen (AS200s, AS300s, and AS400s) primarily. Upperclassmen are second year, third year, and fourth year cadets. The ASI is the Aerospace Science Instructor, who focuses on the underclassmen (AS100s.) Underclassmen or “First Years” are first year cadets.

WINGS is the platform used by all AFJROTC units. This platform is used to track all cadet activity while under the supervision of AFJROTC Headquarters, including uniform supply, issued items, ribbons/awards/medals given to cadets, LDR events and practices, etc. In order to get access to WINGS you must discuss the matter with the ASI. The program is usually issued to cadets on Group Staff, but is sometimes used by cadets who volunteer to assist with tasks involving logistics.
