This project is meant to teach introductory cybersecurity, and it's reporting in the media. I was tasked to find two separate incidents in recent news that involved cybersecurity, as well as complete CCBC's cybersecurity training.
Article Information
This source talks about the hacker group and social movement of Anonymous, and their attack on an airline that the current US administration is using for deportation flights. The hack was codenamed by the organization “Dreadnought”. The hacking group defaced the website and claims to have stolen flight records and passenger manifests. This could have been prevented using better user sign-in security such as two factor authentication as well as training for all staff on proper cybersecurity practices.

This source talks about a hack on the TeleMessage app, which is owned by Smarsh. This is a messaging app that is a clone of the popular private messaging app “Signal”. The hack was reportedly to access user messages through a backend hack. I assume that this means that there was an error in the code, allowing something such as a code injection to happen, giving access to the backend of the application. The affected TeleMessage user that was targeted is reported to be the now former national security adviser, Mike Waltz. This could be prevented using proper secure coding practices when programming an application.

Truthfulness & Integrity: Gives the “Thompson Reuters Trust Principles” at the bottom of the page, shows at near the bottom that 404 Media has independently verified much of the stolen material from the hack, gives hyperlinks to other sites and sources
How is it written and presented? Was written to directly, and without bias, inform the reader of the hack of the application, and it’s
Links and Citations: The author continuously links other articles and sources to back evidence and claims, as well as listing the source of other claims.
In this lesson I learned more about how cybersecurity experts and writers lay out the information about hacks for a public audience to read and understand. This is valuable information to learn to be able to present information in a field in the best way possible.
