Dress Code:
The Dress Code at Cotillion is strictly enforced.
Provocative or risque attire is not appropriate for Cotillion. Before leaving home for class, check your outfit and confirm that you are dressed appropriately. It is also important to wear the right shoes so you can dance for two hours without discomfort. If it's a theme party, be creative and express yourself with a fun costume, but always remember to keep your attire age appropriate and in good taste.
We trust you to police yourself and dress accordingly - However, it is our duty & responsibility to call out inappropriate attire and may ask to send someone home to change. If you are unsure, please consult the Dress Code.
Upon arrival, check in at the lobby desk immediately and then wait quietly in the hallway until the class is ready to begin. Restrooms for both Ladies and Gentlemen are located in the front lobby of the building.
When you enter the ballroom, introduce yourself to all chaperones in the Receiving Line with a friendly greeting, a firm handshake and a smile. Practice giving both your first AND last name and try to make direct eye contact as you shake hands.
You will then be seated briefly, but don't get too comfortable - The class will begin shortly once everyone is through the Receiving Line and into their seats.
There are just three house rules at Cotillion:
(1) No chewing gum in class
(2) No talking while the Instructor is teaching
(3) You cannot refuse to dance with anyone
This is a closed party and needs to be a safe and friendly environment where people can relax and feel comfortable. Be enthusiastic with each new partner you meet. Break the ice immediately with a warm friendly greeting and a nice smile. The class moves quickly and we constantly change partners, so pay close attention to the Instructor and follow their direction to the best of your ability.
During the party, feel free to dance, change partners, talk and socialize with friends, play the game with enthusiasm, serve your partner refreshments, learn the Thought of the Month, cheer for your favorite couple in the dance contest, win the lucky number prize, and generally have an awesome time.
When the party is over, everyone will line up to say goodnight to the chaperones. Please be sure to pick up any coat, jacket, purse, backpack or other personal items you brought in. Listen carefully to the announcements presented at the end of class so you can be prepared for the next class. Sometimes a flyer will be passed out - Please take it home and pass the information along to your parents.
If you had a good time, let the chaperones know - Once you are through the exit line, move out the hallway and into the back parking lot to be picked up. Students cannot walk in the alley or leave Cotillion unattended. They must remain within the "Safety Corridor" as managed by our Security Guards. Students are permitted to leave Cotillion (on foot) only when accompanied by an Adult escort. You will be asked to come back inside and wait if your ride is not immediately available after class.
Please do not make alternate transportation arrangements without notifying your parents first!
Once you are picked up, be sure to give a big "Thank You" to the person who is driving (especially if that is your Mom or Dad).
