Ladies:
Miniskirts, Short Skirts & Low Necklines are not appropriate for Cotillion - Running shoes (including CONVERSE) are not permitted - Students choosing such attire will be asked to go home and change.
Short White (Cloth) Gloves are required for participation - Please remember to bring them every time.
Gloves help overcome the embarrassment of perspiring hands that many newcomers experience during Cotillion.
Ladies may wear an afternoon or party dress that covers the back and shoulders. The gentleman will place his right hand on the ladies back when in closed dance hold, so coverage in that area is critical. A light sweater or short jacket can be added to any ensemble to satisfy this requirement.
When dancing, the ladies arms are raised above their head - This also raises their hemline - Please keep this in mind when choosing your outfit for Cotillion.
Thin soled dancing shoes that cover the toes and stay secured to the foot (with a strap) are mandatory for successful learning. We strongly discourage any type of sandals, mules, slip-on, sling-back, platform, wedge, or extra high heels. The shoes you select should allow for 2 hours of active movement without causing any pain or discomfort - Running shoes (including CONVERSE) are not permitted.
In general: Mini or short skirts, low cut blouses, bare midriff, halter tops, spaghetti straps, backless, strapless, sheer fabric, leggings and all forms of pants are not appropriate for Cotillion. Students not dressed properly will be asked to go home and change. Please check your attire carefully before leaving the house to avoid any embarrassment.
Gentlemen:
Gentlemen may wear a suit or sport coat, dress shirt and tie, dark socks and dress shoes. Suit jackets are worn the entire class and should be easy to button up comfortably. Please check the fit on the collar of the gentleman's shirt so that neckties can be tied and worn comfortably for 2 hours of activity - Please remember to wear a Jacket & Tie every time.
A thin leather or smooth soled dancing shoe is strongly recommended. With the exception of theme parties, sandals, thick soled, rubber soled, and generally all types of athletic shoes are discouraged - Running shoes (including CONVERSE) are not permitted.
Attire for theme parties should be age appropriate and in good taste.
