SLM Microscopy for achieving confocal capacity on a typical widefield microscope

The SLM selectively adjusts the illumination intensity for each part of the sample. We use SLM to pattern illumination in a wide-field microscope to improve contrast. As seen in the figure below, this method results in fluorescent images with less haze and background light. This approach is particularly effective when we image fluorescent neurons for our regeneration studies, allowing us to distinguish the dim neuronal fibers from their background.Â
