As humanism gained popularity among Europe's artists and scholars, people began to question everything around them. They studied books and started schools in an effort to find answers to their questions. Nicolaus Copernicus questioned the old belief that Earth was the center of the universe. The Renaissance had shaken many of Europe's established traditions and beliefs.
At the same time some Christians began to be concerned. The thought that some Renaissance artists and scientists had gotten too far from their religious teachings. These Christians said that many artists and scientists were too worldly.
