World History Booklet

Below are the links to the booklet on World History, some relevant articles I have produced and videos exploring the issues raised by the booklet. There is also information about how to contact me about the information found in the booklet, articles and the videos. (We need a new reformation. The first reformation returned the church to the importance of justification by faith not by works. This second reformation is a return to the understanding that we are created beings whose first obligation is obedience to our creator rather than self realisation or self gratification. The information contained in this website is an exploration of the intellectual justification for such a change and some tentative thoughts concerning the implications of such a change)

Longer videos on World History about 15 minutes each

World History - Introduction - This video introduces the topics covered by the booklet World History and considers the question - is it reasonable to believe the Bible is an accurate revelation from God.

https://youtu.be/w21d4qJPv1U

World History 1 - Philosophy - This videos discusses the significance of the Bible being an accurate revelation from God and the reasons why this is a reasonable position to hold.

https://youtu.be/2WX7vMvNxrg

World History 2 - Geology - This is my second talk on world history - which looks at the geological evidence for the Flood (dealing with page 7-9 of the World History booklet).

https://youtu.be/yUz639mnTI8

World History 3 - Geography/Topography - This is my third talk on world history covering material from p10-15 and addendum 7 & 8 p77-79 which refers to the evidence for a worldwide flood found in geography.

https://youtu.be/HzKrKrEuhXI

World History 4 - Evolution or Design? - This is my fourth talk on world history covering material from p19-22 and Addendum 2 p69 in which I discuss the arguments for biological design and the evidence for that design being recent.

https://youtu.be/GXQAChDr24o

World History 5 - Cosmology - This is my fifth talk on world history covering material from p15-19 and Addendum 1 p68 in which I consider the issues surrounding the age of the universe.

https://youtu.be/jIMQeGB_kaQ

World History 6 - Academic Response - This is my sixth talk on world history covering material from p22-23 in which I consider the academic response to scientific issues raised by creation scientists. (I also consider the problems associated with 'Methodological Naturalism'). Since producing this video I have read Michael Behe's most recent book 'Darwin Devolves' (2019) in which he makes the following observation: 'Despite twenty years of efforts to refute the argument of 'Darwin's Black Box', not only has the Darwinian evolution of the blood-clotting cascade not been solved: it hasn't even been addressed' (p300-301). Likewise with regard to flagellum he observes that 'twenty years after 'Darwin's Black Box', the stunningly complex molecular machine is no closer to receiving a Darwinian account' (p293).

World History 7 - Ancient History - This is my seventh talk on world history covering material from p25-32 and addendum 3 p68 in which I consider issues related to ancient history and ancient Egyptian chronology.

https://youtu.be/8dR_SY-vxjU

World History 8 - Ancient Greece - This is my eighth talk on world history covering material from p35-39 in which I consider how the book of Daniel demonstrates authority of the Bible through the fulfilment of prophecies.

https://youtu.be/RsMbMm65Kig

World History 9 - Ancient Rome - This is my ninth talk on world history covering material from p39-44 addendum 4 p69 in which I consider the centrality of life of Christ in history and the experience of the early church in the Roman Empire.

https://youtu.be/GRkVPdtJf6Q

World History 10a - Spread of Christianity & Development of Democracy - This my tenth talk on world history which I have split into two videos. The first video covers spread of Christianity in Asia and Ethiopia, the evangelisation of Britain, Alfred the Great and the development of democracy.

https://youtu.be/iHnqYUIpOKE

World History 10b - Reformation - The second video considers the reformation and uses the 'historicist' approach to the book of revelation to examine church/world history.

(under construction - see original videos below)

World History 11a - Industrial Revolution and Missionaries - This my eleventh talk on world history which I split into two talks - the first video is on the Industrial Revolution and Missionaries in the 18th-19th century.

(under construction - see original videos below)

World History 11b The Development of Science - This second video is about the development of Science in the 17th-19th century. These talks cover material from p51-56 & addendum 6 p72-75.

(under construction - see original videos below)

World History 12 - This my twelfth and final talk on world history covers material from p57-64 and deals with the dramatic changes in the 20th and 21st centuries and examines if the Bible can shed any light on their significance.

(under construction - see original videos below)

Extended version videos

The following are links to the original videos I produced. Beware the quality is poor as they were my first attempts to produce videos, such is my lack of experience in technology (in fact in the 'Introduction' and 'World History 2' I did both talks thinking I had the power points on the screen but when I looked at the videos they were not there - fortunately this issue was rectified for all the other videos). Furthermore the webcam was quite old and the room where most of the filming took place was both poorly lit and cold! Having said all that I have decided to retain these videos because they represent a more discursive consideration of the ideas being considered than the more polished videos that I eventually made - as a consequence many of these videos are around 30 minutes long.

World History - Introduction - This can be seen as a summary as much as an introduction - unfortunately due to mistake on my part the slides do not appear on the screen. However they can be viewed separately

World History 1 - Philosophy - The following is my first attempt at producing a podcast! It is a 13 minute introduction to the booklet on World History I wrote and sent to staff by email a few months ago.

https://youtu.be/rYJ3oOcZfHc

World History 2 - Geology - This is my second attempt at producing a talk on world history (dealing with page 7-9). I had hoped to include on the screen a power point to illustrate my points but alas that did not translate into the recording, however the power point can be seen on World History 3.

World History 3 - Land Formations - This is my third talk on world history covering material from p10-15 and addendum 7 & 8 p77-79 which refers to the evidence for a worldwide flood found in geography.

World History 4 - Evolution or Design - This is my fourth talk on world history covering material from p19-22 and Addendum 2 p69 in which I discuss the arguments for biological design and the evidence for that design being recent.

World History 7 - Ancient History - This is my seventh talk on world history covering material from p25-32 and addendum 3 p68 in which I recap material from talk 2-5 and consider issues related to ancient history and ancient Egyptian chronology.

https://youtu.be/tu-50UfH8aQ

World History 8 - Ancient Greece - This is my eighth talk on world history covering material from p35-39 in which I consider how the book of Daniel demonstrates authority of the Bible through the fulfilment of prophecies.

World History 9 - Ancient Rome - This is my ninth talk on world history covering material from p39-44 addendum 4 p69 in which I consider the centrality of life of Christ in history and the experience of the early church in the Roman Empire.

Within this video there is a discussion of why one could assign 3967 BC as a possible date for Creation. However below is a more accurate analysis.

Date for the temple starting to be built was 968BC using Menander of Ephesus (2nd century BC). The article below also suggests this date fits with Edwin Thiele’s chronology of the kings of Israel and Judah. If that is the case then construction of the Temple took place exactly 1000 years before the death of Christ (assuming He died in 33 AD). By this logic we can potentially date Creation to 3967 or 3968 BC. Using Ussher’s chronology for the dates before Solomon we would come to 3975 BC, however for the sake argument I will use 3967 as that makes the death of Christ 4000 years after creation and if God was using a thousand years to represent a day (see 2 Peter 3:8 & Psalm 90:4) then that would make the death of Jesus to be at the beginning of the fourth day. It is worth noting that almost all the early church fathers were Chiliasts who believed in the escatological typology of the six days of creation. If my analysis is correct, then I leave the reader to draw such conclusions as seem appropriate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menander_of_Ephesus
