Thanks for you intrest in these creatures! The canon has been carefully designed so that all features work together in a coehesive world. This page is designed for take you through the process of designing your own Worbal within the canon.
Starting with physical traits, there are a few things to note.
No sexual dimorphsism. Females and males are indistiguishable (other than genitals)
Bioluminescence occurs in the eyes and quills. Worbals do no have bioluminescent fur, skin, claws, or innards. At least, not naturally.
Square snout, split tongue, long tail, and long ears that point backwards as seen in the concept drawings.
Unique anatomy for Bioelectricity and Electro-sense.
Large dorsal quills
Some traits are disallowed. These include horns, wings, extra limbs, extra eyes, feathers, and whiskers. Worbal hybrids also do not exist.
Please review the Anatomy page for more in-depth descriptions and examples of Worbal anatomy.
Worbal fur can range a few different natural colors.
A spectrum from Brown to Red to Orange to Yellow
In rare cases, blue.
However, with Gene Therapy, Worbals have developed a method to change their colors to anything. Keep this in mind while designing.
Natural Worbal markings can be:
A lighter shade of their base color
A darker shade of their base color
White
Black
Once again, Gene Therapy means that these markings are allowed to be any color.
As for the design of these markings, they can be anything. Go nuts.
Worbal bioluminescence ranges all colours. Though they cannot change with through gene therapy
As an important defining feature of the Worbals, their Quills are specific. The tips of the quills must be bioluminescent with your Worbal's bioluminescent hue. The non-luminescent portions of the quill must be black (If your Worbal is albino, then they are white).
There are a few different Quill configurations your Worbal can have:
There are three main classes, Single File, Double File, and a Combinations of the two. Combinations are more rare.
There are also three main types: Full-Type, Split-Type, and 3/4-Type.
All quill configurations are a combination of 1 class and 1-2 types.
The nomenclature for naming typically goes: (Type) (Class). Example being: "Full-type Single File". Worbals use a shortened version: "Full Single".
In the case of a combination, two classes will be used to denote the configuration. The order of the classes is determined from head to tail tip. Example: "Split-Type Single File Double File" where the top half of the Split-Type is single filed while the tail half is double filed. Worbals use a shortened version: "Split Single Double".
(Work in progress)
As tradition and an important part of their culture, just before adulthood, Worbals forge a weapon (and learn to use it) from a metal unique to their star system: Araylith. It's said to protect them throughout their lives as they leave their parent pack. Worbals have a strong connection to such weaponry even if they aren't professional duelists.
It can take many forms. Commonly bladed weapons, but may also be tools such as a wrench or hammer. Other examples include an umbrella, clothing, or tech. It's encouraged to get creative with your implementation of your chosen Araylith
Araylith comes in several official forms, but in the interest of artistic liberty, you are allowed to create your own form outside the official forms. If you chose to do so, it must have a numerical designation higher than 256 and will not be treated as canon. The only canon Araylith you are not allowed to use is A-122.
Please visit the Araylith page for more detail about the metal, its effects, and its official forms.
A Worbal's name consists of four parts.
The Title: A title.
The Identifier: Think of this is a first name. This is what your Worbal will commonly be referred to as
The Family Name: This is the packname of their parents.
The Packname: Worbals are pack creatures. Each pack has it's own name.
The Title, Family Name, and Packname are in place should you wish to develop the character of your Worbal further. Otherwise, just an identifier is sufficient.
The title "Rerias" is reserved for those who have helped Bandwidth significantly in the creation of the Worbals.
