“25 POINT INSPECTION”
SAFETY INSPECTIONS
Safety Inspections are required on every job where the customer hires us and we perform work. Where Dispatch only is collected inspections are not required.
UPSELLING FROM SAFETY INSPECTION
Upselling is the key to your success. You should think of every single call as a potential lead. Your objective is to go on about 2 calls a day (10 a week). This can be accomplished if you look for upsell items. You’ll find that you visit many homes (both new and old).
Here are some upsell opportunities which are LIMITED ONLY BY YOUR CREATIVITY!!!
UPSELLING SCENARIO: PANELS
Number of calls you went on this month = 40
Number of outdated or FPE panels you saw = 9
Number of times you recommended replacement = 9
Number of customers that said “no” = 6
Number of customers that said “YES” = 3
Average replacement sale = $2,000
Replacement revenues (3 x $2,000) = $6,000
Your replacement NewComp (3 x $348) = $1,044
Could you use an extra $12,528 per year???
UPSELLING SCENARIO: SURGE PROTECTION
Number of calls you went on this month = 40
Number of times you recommended surge pro = 40
Number of customers that said “no” = 35
Number of customers that said “YES” = 5
Average surge protection sale = $679
Surge protection revenues (5 x $679) = $3,395
Your surge protection NewComp (5 x $150) = $750
Could you use an extra $9,000 per year???
If you do both you’ll earn an extra $21,528/year!
LOAD CALCS
Load Calcs are required on all calls. These are done in order to confirm that a customers electrical panel has not been overloaded from previous electrical work done without the proper permits and inspections. The Load Calcs are also beneficial in confirming that even on a newer home that all codes have been honored even during new construction.
A Load Calc graph is included in all technicians price books and are very easy to use.
In cases where a standard load calc is not sufficient or where a print out is required, contact the dispatcher and provide them with the following information.
Load Calcs can be found in the current edition of the NEC.

“TECHNICIAN STATEMENT”
1. INTRO STATEMENT
Hi, Mrs, Smith?
Hi, How are you?
Excellent! My name is , I noticed your first name is Betty, is it ok if I call you Betty?
Sure, come on in.
Betty, is it okay how my van is parked? (pointing at van)
Yes, that’s fine.
[BUILD REPOIRE IMMEDIATELY] You have a lovely house did you just purchase it? Etc….
2. PANEL STATEMENT
[go to the problem if they request that first, or ask to see the panel first if that applies. Listen to the client intently, build repoire, and even make them laugh]
Betty, would you please show me where your electrical panel is. It’s the heart of your system and I might need to shut off power to one or more circuits. Do you mind showing me where it is?
Not at all. It’s right this way.
[examine outside of panel, see if it’s labeled, surge protection needed, obsolete panel, etc. If it’s an FPE panel point out to the customer the fact that it is not UL listed, breakers have a history of not tripping, etc]
Now that we’ve gone through your panel and your electrical system I’d like to share your options with you.
3. CREDIBILITY STATEMENT
ME ***(must be customized for yourself)***
SAMPLE:
Betty, I’d like to share with you a little about myself. I’m a licensed electrician. I hold a residential wiremen’s license which means I specialize in working with home owners almost exclusively. 4. SFPG STATEMENT

This guide was developed by 500 contractors nationwide over a period of about 10 years to standardize pricing [point to logo on front cover]. Essentially what it does is eliminate confusion and frustration for our clients. INSTALL NEW MOTION LIGHTING in 100 Year Old Home 2 pages
You are dispatched to a 100 year old home. The home has been rewired and a new Service Panel has been installed within the last 5 years. The electrical system is in excellent condition.
The owner wants to have (2) motion lights installed under the second story soffit.
He wants the lights controlled from a new switch installed in the master bedroom.
You investigate the work to be done, and find that there is an unfinished loft with a switch, a light and a receptacle. The circuit that supplies them also has the bathroom light on with it, and that is all. The loft floor is almost fully planked with plywood, and is accessible through the ceiling of the master bedroom, by a ladder that the owner has in place.
One motion light will require only an extension ladder from ground level.
The other motion light will require you to stand on the Boot Room Roof, from which you will be able to reach the soffit to install the light.
There is one important detail that adds to the difficulty of the work.
It is winter, it is cold, the roof is totally iced from a recent storm, and you will need to build a temporary platform to work from the Boot Room Roof. This will require (5) 2” X 4” X 8’ studs, and (2) 24” X 48” Plywood Handy Panels, and some screws for a temporary work platform.

She would also like to have them controlled from a new Dimmer Switch. There are no ceiling lights in the room at this time, only a switched receptacle.
You investigate the work to be done, and find that there is access to the attic, from the other end of the house, and it is free and clear to gain access to the area where the lights will be installed.
You also find that the basement is unfinished, with an open joist ceiling. The electrical Panel is a Siemens breaker panel, with a few spaces left. The Return Air Plenum seems to be the best way to bring a new circuit from the panel. The Walls where the Return Air is located do not line up directly (offset by approximately 10 inches).
It is now 2:30 pm, what will you do next?

You discover that the problem is the 30 Amp 2 Pole Circuit Breaker that supplies the Air Conditioner. The panel is approximately 22 years old. It is a Bolt-On Breaker, and the breaker was not bolted down properly. The loose connection to the buss has caused arcing and burning at the Buss. The buss is now damaged, and not repairable and a new breaker cannot be installed in place of the damaged one. There are 8 spaces left in the panel.

EMERGENCY AFTER HOURS DISPATCH FOR NO POWER
You are the ON-CALL Electrician for the night. You receive a call from an elderly man who just had the Utility Company out to check his power, and they pulled the meter out because of a failed connection on the “consumer’s side” of the service. The Utility Company has removed the meter from site, and told the owner to have an Approved Contractor to come out to make repair before they will re-install the meter and restore power. The Utility Company and the owner believe that all that needs to be done is to replace the #3/0 wiring from the meter base to the Main Switch.

A NEW CUSTOMER OBJECTS TO THE COST OF THE REPAIR
You have been dispatched to a new customer that has hired our company for the first time. During your presentation you have built value in the company and yourself, and have shown the customer the Straight-Forward Price Guide and explained our warranties etc. You then remind them of our dispatch fee for today, the circuit diagnosis, and have them authorize to proceed with the diagnosis. You again make it clear that after you have diagnosed the problem you will let them know the cost for the repair. The presentation is textbook perfect, and you proceed with the diagnosis. You find that to correct the problem it will be a level 9 single circuit restoration.
