As with the Deathday Party, I sent out invitations to all WizMug members a week prior to the event. We had food, music, a craft, and, most importantly, a Triwizard Tournament. I tried to keep the games I created for the Triwizard Tournament as close to those in the book as possible, so the first task was to find the hidden dragon egg and solve the riddle inside, the second task was to save your friends from the merpeople, and the third was to master the maze of trivia questions. The winners of each task each received a Triwizard Cup. Again, I have to emphasize the importance of setting the mood for WizMug. Part of the magic is all in the presentation. The floating candles have battery-operated tea lights in them and turning them on is a truly time-consuming affair for especially since I am under 5-feet tall and have to drag a giant ladder throughout the room to turn them all on and off! Is it worth it? Yes. Yes, it is. Of course, now you can purchase floating candles that you can turn on and off using a wand. Too cool!
I did this like an Easter egg hunt. Six participants were sent to search for the hidden golden eggs. The first one back with the correct answer to the riddle was the winner of that round. After six rounds, the winners competed in a final round.
This is a fishing game. I made my own poles using dowel sticks, string, and paper clips, and had cheap plastic soldiers be the "friends". Participants had 30 seconds to pick up as many friends as they could. If there was a tie, then the one that picked up their soldier first would win that round. Again, each round had six participants and a final round consisted of the previous winners.
This is a trivia game. I originally did this with an adult asking the questions to each participant individually but the questions turned out to be too hard and I have since turned this into a Kahoot instead. I would still do this in six rounds with the winner of each round doing a final round. In the final round each previous winner would get a dry-erase board and have to name as many Weasleys as they can in 15 seconds.
This is a station where they could put their names in the Goblet of Fire.
While some were eating or playing games, others were making house ornaments.
One of our winners with the ornament he made and his Triwizard Cup!
I encouraged everyone to dress for the occasion. Of course, I was the biggest spectacle of all!
