Once a permission slip along with the $30 fee was returned, an acceptance letter and owl was waiting for the student on his or her desk the next morning. Again, I underestimated the response to the letters. There was absolute joy and an abundance of others who had no interest in Harry Potter or the club that now suddenly wanted to join. I originally was looking for more realistic looking owls but their cost was too prohibitive for our budget. I found these at Oriental Trading and the club members all loved them. I used parchment-looking paper to create both the acceptance letters and envelopes. The envelopes I cut into 21.6-cm squares and personalized with each student's name. After folding the letter into fourths, I centered it into the envelope square and folded the four corners over the letter then sealed the envelope. Each envelope was sealed with a wax seal using the Hogwarts crest that I got off Amazon.
We sent the owls for the Year 1 members and, since the club was so popular that our members wanted to do a second year of it, Year 2's will receive house pins (which they were encouraged to wear with pride!) . Here is a copy of our schedule of events for the year for both clubs.
