Entrevista a Montserrat López Puerta – Enginyera de Telecomunicacions

Quina és la teva ciutat natal?

Barcelona.

On vas estudiar?

Primària a les monges de L’Assumpció de Badalona, Institut La Pineda de Badalona, Col·legi Tècnic Jesuïtes al Clot i Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

Quina era la teva assignatura preferida?

Matemàtiques.

Què volies ser de petita? Ja mostraves algun interès pel que has estudiat? Sempre ho has tingut clar?

-Sí, volia ser o arquitecta o enginyera

Què vas estudiar?

Vaig estudiar FII Delineació Industrial, Tècnic en Fred Industrial i finalment Enginyeria de Telecomunicacions a la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

Creus que et vas sentir condicionada a l’hora d’escollir d’estudiar una carrera del àmbit de les TIC?

No, quan vaig començar la carrera de telecomunicacions ja estava acostumada a estudis tècnics i amb poques dones. Pràcticament des que vaig començar l’institut sempre he anat amb una o dos companyes o cap. De fet a la carrera era l’única dona de la meva promoció.

Com va reaccionar la teva família al saber el que volies estudiar?

La veritat quan vaig estudiar fred industrial no sabien ben be que era allò. L’enginyeria els hi va sembla bé.

Tenies alguna companya a la carrera és a dir, quantes dones ereu?

Com he dit abans a Delineació vam ser tres noies, a Fred Industrial dues i a Enginyeria cap dona.

Tenies alguna professora?

A formació professional cap dona, i a Telecomunicacions crec que dues professores, però la majoria homes.

Has realitzat algun estudi més a part de la primera carrera?

Sí, també he fet un postgrau en Climatització i Fred Industrial a la UPC.

Quin treball has tingut després de finalitzar els estudis?

Jo sempre he treballat i estudiar a la vegada. La meva feina sempre ha estat en el sector de les instal·lacions industrials. Amb els estudis i treballant he anat millorant professionalment.

Exactament en que consisteix la teva feina?

Ara tinc la meva pròpia empresa d’instal·lacions i a més realitzo projectes a nivell d’enginyeria. El darrer lloc de treball com assalariada va ser com a cap de departament d’instal·lacions mecàniques.

Has realitzat alguna investigació o projecte relacionat amb el teu àmbit?

Sí.

En cas afirmatiu, quin?

Vaig dissenyar una sistema de control i monitorització de Legionel·losis en el sistemes de ACS per a centres esportius, per a un concurs públic per l’Ajuntament de Badalona.

Què opines sobre el paper de les dones a les TIC? Creus que tenen les mateixes oportunitats que els homes?

Crec que sí que tenen les mateixes oportunitats, de fet jo no he sentit mai el contrari, i com he dit, des de jove estic tan amb els estudis com a la feina en un sector on la majoria són homes.

El que sí considero que no hi ha moltes dones i no se realment per què.

Has notat mai alguna diferència en el món laboral pel fet de ser dona?

Jo la veritat amb el cor a la mà, no m'he sentit mai discriminada ni cap diferencia. Si que es cert que quan era més jove vaig fer dues entrevistes en que l’empresa em va reconèixer que no tenia preparat el departament per dones. Una va ser la Nestle en la part de reparacions de les cambres frigorífiques, i l’altre a la Vanguardia a la part de producció, en aquell moment no podien entrar dones.

A banda d’això en el treballs que he estat mai he sentit diferències per ser dona.

Biography:

Montserrat López Puerta works as a executive of Climaespais SL, a company dedicated to the installation of air conditioning and electrical equipment, among others. Born on March 9, 1968 in Badalona, ​​daughter of father from Castilla la Mancha and mother from Murcia, he grew up in a humble district of the city of Badalona. At the school he already showed skills and a great interest in mathematics, which led him to graduate in 1988 as Technical Specialist in Industrial Delineation, later, in 1994, he obtained the title of Technical Specialist in Industrial Cooling , and he performed postgraduate studies at the UPC in Air Conditioning and Industrial Cooling. At the time he worked in different places, first as a Industrial Draftsman at Memsa Fluidos until he was 24 years old. Afterwards, as an Installations Technician in Elèctriques Buixó 2 years, also of Installations Technician, he was in Alfa Instalaciones until 35 years old. Finally, in 2002, he founded Climaespais SL, the company that he currently manages. Already with two children and a relatively settled life, he decided to face a new challenge, to study engineering through the UOC, and so he graduated in 2018 as a Telecommunications Systems Engineer.

Where were you born?

In Barcelona.

Where did you study?

Primary at the nuns of L'Assumpció de Badalona, ​​then La Pineda Badalona Institute, the Jesuit College of the Clot and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

Which was your favorite subject?

Maths.

What did you want to be as a child? Did you already show any interest in what you finally studied? Have you always had that clear?

-Yes, I wanted to be an architect or engineer

What did you study?

I studied FII Industrial Design, Industrial Cooling Technician and finally Telecommunication Engineering at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

Do you think that you were conditioned when choosing to study a career in the field of ICT?

No, when I started my telecommunication career I was already used to technical studies and with few women. Practically since I started the institute I have always been with one or two colleagues or none. In fact, in the career I was the only woman in my promotion.

How did your family react to knowing what you wanted to study?

The truth is that when I decided to study industrial delineation, they didn't know what was that. Engineering seemed good to them.

Do you have any companions in the race, how many women do you have?

As I said before in Delineation we were three girls, two at Industrial Cold and no female in engineering.

Did you have any teacher?

There was no woman in job training. In Telecommunications I think there were two women, but most men.

Have you done any study apart from the first career?

Yes, I have also done a postgraduate degree in Air Conditioning and Industrial Cooling at the UPC.

What work did you have after finishing your studies?

I have always worked and studied at the same time. My work has always been in the industrial installations field. With my studies and works I have been improving myself.

Exactly what does your job consist of?

Now I have my own installation company and I also carry out projects at the engineering level. The last job as a salaried worker was as the head of the department of mechanical installations.

Have you done any research or project related to your area?

Yes

In affirmative case, what?

I designed a control and monitoring system for Legionellosis in the ACS systems for sports centers, for a public contest by the Badalona Town Hall.

What do you think about the role of women in ICTs? Do you think they have the same opportunities as men?

I think they do have the same opportunities, in fact I have never felt the opposite, and as I said, I have been studying and working with men since I was young.

What I do believe is that there aren't many women and I don't really know why.

Have you ever noticed any difference in the workplace due to being a woman?

To be honest, I have never felt discriminated or felt any difference. It is true that when I was younger I did two interviews in which the company acknowledged that they hadn't prepared the department for women. One was the Nestle in the repair department of refrigerators, and the other in the Vanguardia on the production side, at that time women could not enter.

Apart from that in the work I've been, I've never felt any difference just because I am a woman.
