I have some experience with beekeeping that began with a class I enrolled in primarily to overcome my irrational fear of bees. You'll find my experiences detailed below.
This image captures one of the wildest things I've ever done. The highlight of my beekeeping class was when our professor had us hold the queen bee in a wire cage to demonstrate the power of her pheromones on the colony.
All of the honey bees feel an urge to surround the queen to protect her. The longer I held the wire connected to her cage, the more bees landed on my arm. My entire arm vibrated and felt warm and heavy from the weight and activity of the honey bees.
No students were stung during this exercise, which I found to be even more amazing.
I created this poster as part of a research project for my beekeeping class, complete with pictures I took myself over 21 days at the lab. You can read more about it under my research page.
