The Dawn House Women's Shelter is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1986 in Kingston Ontario. The Dawn House focuses on providing women in Kingston with permanent and affordable supportive housing, transitional housing, advocacy and counselling, workshops, system navigation and community mapping, basic necessities, life skills, wellness programs, and community outreach. Since the establishment of the Dawn House, there have been over 6000 stays in the shelter and they have continued to provide their services after their first location was closed due to funding changes in 2016. Their current location has been open since 2017 and they continue to aim to end homelessness in Kingston by providing affordable housing to women of all ages.
The Dawn House currently runs a program named Spread the Love Boutique, which generates funding for the organization to be able to serve the community. This boutique sells previously loved formal dresses, including wedding dresses, and is a way for individuals to buy designer dresses at a fraction of the original price. The Dawn House uses funding from donations and fundraisers to improve its services to provide all women in Kingston with resources.
