Biography:
Mike is thrilled to be in his 13th year of teaching and directing at his alma mater. He is perhaps most well known for directing such award-winning productions as Sweeney Todd, The Cherry Orchard, Ragtime, Urinetown, Macbeth, Chicago: Teen Edition, and The Unsinkable Molly Brown (Revised Version- Regional Premiere). Outside of Walnut, he has been the director of the summer play at Commonwealth Artist Student Theatre (CAST) with such credits as O Beautiful, Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play, Puffs, Indecent, Shakespeare in Love, The Ferryman, Marian or The True Tale of Robin Hood, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He has performed locally as an actor at The Carnegie, Know Theatre of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Landmark Productions, Ovation Theatre Company, and New Edgecliff Theatre. Past acting credits include Remus: A New Musical (George Remus), Hunchback of Notre Dame (Frollo), Sweeney Todd(Judge Turpin), The Darkest Night at Gnarly Stump (Sheriff Everett), Oklahoma! (Jud), and The Producers (Max). Professional directing credits include Don't Cross The Streams, Hot Damn! It's the Loveland Frog, The Munitions Man, The Gospel of Barabbas (Cincinnati Fringe Festival), and Title of Show (Cincinnati Landmark Productions). He also serves as Program Director for The Cappies of Greater Cincinnati, and was also selected as one of 24 theatre teachers and teaching artists from across the nation to be a part of the Educational Theatre Association's Model Curriculum Framework Project, where he co-created and implemented theatre curriculum to be used as a model for theatre educators and students around the nation. Bio: Originally from Milwaukee, Mr. Mitchell graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Theatre Education from Xavier University, where he participated in theatre productions as an actor, designer, and technician. Since graduating, he has taught with American Legacy Theatre, Cincinnati Academy of Performing Arts, and Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, in addition to working in production at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and interning at Art Equals in Covington, KY. Mr. Mitchell brings a wealth of knowledge and a true passion for the art form to his new role, and he could not be prouder to facilitate a fun and educational environment for more young artists.
