Why Join WFEA?
“My biggest reason for being a member is protection. I insure my car, my belongings, my home, and my health. A union is like insurance for your job. My second biggest reason for joining is voice. I like knowing I can share my concerns with someone who can take it to the right people.
Protections
Assistance with...
Discipline & discharge hearings
Evaluation matters & improvement plans
Reduction in force issues & non-renewal for cause hearings
Guidance for other difficult concerns
Legal aid:
Protection from unfair labor practices & contract violations
NDU attorney on retainer for job-related issues
Attorney Referral Program – two free 30-minutes consultation sessions per year for personal issues

Voice
Share Your Concerns:
Every WFEA member has access to an anonymous concerns document that is shared with the WFEA Executive Board.
Each building has a designated representative.
Negotiations for Certified Staff
Only WFEA members get to give input to the teacher negotiations team.
WFEA has negotiated so many benefits over the years. For example, personal leave didn’t exist until a member had an issue in the 1970s!
Sadly, ESP staff cannot negotiate with the school board. However, WFEA representatives recently discussed forming a committee that can bring ESP concerns to the school board.
Other Perks
Updates about state politics relating to public schools, including convenient links to write your local representatives
FACT: The union cannot use dues for political action. However, people are welcome to donate to a PAC if they would like to.
