We are the nearest Croquet Club for a wide area of South Cumbria and North Lancashire, including Kendal, Lancaster and Kirkby Lonsdale.

New Free Taster sessions for 2026

An Introduction to "Classic Croquet" 

Wednesday 29th April 10.30am-12.30pm and 2pm-4pm

Monday 4th May [May Bank Holiday Monday] 10.30am-12.30pm and 2pm-4pm

The lawns are open each year from around the end of March to early October between 10am and 5pm daily. There are two full-sized lawns and one half-lawn, although the arrangement can be modified to suit requirements. In addition to our own in-house tournaments and competitions which take place throughout the season, we also participate in the North West Federation of Croquet Clubs handicap Association Croquet, Advantage Golf Croquet and Short Lawn leagues, and the Cumbria Tankard, a regional competition in which we play against Crake Valley, Keswick and Penrith.

If you are interested in playing croquet, you would be most welcome (click here for the membership registration form) or just come along and get better acquainted with the game. Please remember, however, that the Hall and Gardens are privately owned, so please contact the Club Chairman or Secretary in the first instance (for details, see Find and Contact Us page).  Alternatively, why not visit the Hall and make yourself known to a club member whilst roaming the superb gardens.
