Please (don’t) leave me alone
Glassy eyes glued to the television,
An interruption now would ruin everything.
Please don’t show up, please don’t ruin my fun.
The television goes black, yet I still look around.
Down the stairs my feet pitter-patter,
Looking for something I hoped had fled.
Your empty room is what I wanted,
Yet now I'm upset you are gone.
Humans believe they are clever when they do nice things,
To simply get someone to like them.
Thinking they've found a way to cheat the system,
Like that’s not how all good relationships work.
In every ‘don’t worry about me’,
A plea is hidden to do the opposite.
Please don’t worry about me
Please don’t follow me
Please don’t care about me
Please don’t love me
Stubborn human heart,
Unable to speak the truth.
