Across the Forest
Deep in the forest I lay, Open in the meadow I stand.
Brown skin blurred with the canopy, Sun-kissed skin blazing in the light.
Dressed in a gown of navy, Buttoned up in a suit of ochre.
Cradled in a thicket of cornflowers, Surrounded by a field of daffodils.
Flowers tall and unmoving, Flowers bright and unassuming.
Yet in the middle of the tree line,
flowers so small and light,
they almost slip the mind.
Yet their bright yellow centers
cause the eye to double take.
From far across the forest,
our eyes finally meet.
Your own bright yellow center
seems to blow away the trees.
Forgotten no longer, I stand,
reaching out my hand to meet yours.
Blue and yellow mix,
a deep green is born.
Forget-me-nots stand out,
because they are so small and vivid.
Let me stand out because of you,
as my own self-worth has risen.
