The Bridge Design Project was to challenge our knowledge on structural integrity and building techniques.
I first started with WestPoint Bridge Designer where we were able to see a visual of compression and tension being applied. After decided which was going to be the strongest bridge, I modelled the bridge in Solidworks.
After getting a visual design of the bridge to model after, I started to construct the model with my group partner out of basswood sticks.
This project was a test of making thinks consistent and patience is key.
We wanted to cut corners to finish faster but ended up taking longer because the 2 sides of our bridge were different widths so we had to rebuild it.
Bridge created on WestPoint Bridge Designer. The Software let see a visual of tension and compression when a truck drove over it.
Solidworks Rendering of the Bridge between the abutments.
The 2 sides of the Bridges as we are getting ready to put laterals in between to stick them together.
The bridge in final stages of building.
The Bridge getting tested on Mr. Dickies Structural Tester.
The bridge cracked due to a compression fracture at 75.12 pounds with a total efficiency at 834.45
