Circa 1930 Scotholme works yarn dyeing & winding ¬

Below: Rewinding is the last step in the dyeing process.

Transfer yarn from tube or spring to a cone package, clean the yarn, and make the yarn in continuous form. Care also needed as previous winding can damage colourway of lighter yarns. Waxing can be applied to the yarn to give softness and lubricity to the yarn, to provide better knitting performance. Tension is given to double yarn and not single yarn, otherwise a single yarn becomes hard. Modern machines now use a blower to clean the yarn.

After rewinding, dyed yarns become ready for packing and delivery.
