Traditions

Outlined below are some of the many traditions we have on our campus. These traditions make WFHS so special!

Best of the Nest

Best of the Nest is the annual tradition where each Williams Field teacher picks a senior they think is outstanding. The school gets together in the nest while teachers call up their student and place a graduation cord on their neck. After receiving their cord the Best of the Nest walk through the gauntlet while everyone cheers them on.

March the Halls

March the Halls happens every Friday there is a home football game. The band, color guard, and cheerleaders walk up and down every hall singing the fight song. This happens during 6th hour to hype everyone up before the big game only a couple hours away. Classes are released into the hall to join in on the fun and excitement!

Stuff the Bus

Stuff the Bus is a Williams Field tradition where students compete in their classes to donate the most canned goods to quite literally stuff a bus! The class that donates the most canned good gets to deliver the bus filled with donations to the United Food Bank.

Back to School Bash

The Back to School Bash is a foam party/dance for everyone to get together to celebrate the beginning of the new school year. This occurs on the Friday of the first week back to school. Traditionally, that Friday StuCo hosts a Hawaiian themed assembly. It's most known for its Hawaiian dancers who perform with fire!

Dec the Halls

During the week of homecoming, StuCo hosts an evening of decorating the halls in the 200 building. StuCo proposes 3 themes to the student body and they cast their votes at lunch. The winning theme determines the decor of the hallways and that of the dance! Each grade level takes on a different hallway to decorate and get in the spirit of homecoming! The decoration occurs in the Science, Math, History, & English hallways.

Homecoming Bonfire

The Homecoming bonfire happens the week of the Homecoming football game and dance. Any clubs or sports can set up a table with fun activities to do. There are food trucks, live music, and most importantly a bonfire!

Homecoming

The very busy week of Homecoming comes to a close with the Homecoming dance. The dance takes place on the Saturday after the Homecoming football game. Homecoming is an excellent event to get back into the spirit and fun of being on campus.

Blood Drive

Stuco hosts 3 Blood Drives a year (August, November, & April). Partnering with Vitalant, donations are provided to all Arizona hospitals. You must be at least 16 years old to donate blood! If you're interested you sign up to donate and a ticket will be delivered to one of your classes with the time you are to donate blood in the small gym.

Lip Sync Battle

For a night of friendly competition, come see (or participate in!) the Teacher v. Student Lip Sync Battle. Pick your own music, choreograph your moves, and bring your A game. This competition is a night filled of laughter!

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat is a community event that occurs during the week of Halloween. Clubs and/or sports can bring their cars which will be located in front of the school. They decorate their car to any family friendly theme and pass out candy to community members as they walk through. It’s a fun way to reach out to the community and give back.

Bury the Knight

The day of the football game against Higley, we have our Bury the Knight assembly where the entire student body comes together to prepare for the game that night. Coach Campbell gives a speech to get everyone excited and Mr. Ray reads a eulogy as the football team carries a coffin across the field that represents us burying the Higley's mascot, the Knight, because we plan to dominate and beat them at the game.

Powderpuff

Powderpuff is where the senior and junior girls face off in a match of football, while the senior and junior football boys become cheerleaders. The event takes place in early February and the purchase of a t-shirt gets you free admission! Between the girls' hidden football talents, the boys' cheering, and Mr. Ray's commentary, it is no wonder why Powderpuff is a beloved WF tradition!

Mr. & Ms. Black Hawk

This pageant competition is for Junior and Seniors who feel they're up to the task of being crowned Mr. & Ms. Black Hawk. The young men and women involved compete against one another in the following competitions: Talent, Career, Interview, & Spirit.

Beardos

Ever partake in No Shave November? Male teachers on our campus sign up to partake in a month of growing the wildest beard. Donations can be made to support your favorite beard. The winner will have their beard shaved live during an assembly--in whatever fashion they choose! Proceeds go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Sadie Hawkins

The Sadie Hawkins dance is a casual dress event where the girls ask guys to be their dates. This dance occurs in February and is just another opportunity to get together, have a little fun, and dance the night away!

Make a Wish

In the spring Williams Field gets to adopt one Make A Wish kid. The entire week, called Wish Week, holds activities and fundraisers to raise money towards granting their wish. It is so very rewarding to take part in the many events of a week that focuses on granting the wish of a child!

Minute of Giving

Spectators and students attending the Wish Week assemblies and Varsity sporting events during this time have 1 minute to donate as much money as they possibly can! For 1 minute, students run around collecting spare change and cash. The goal is to collect as much as possible in the one minute time frame!

Penny Wars

Penny Wars is a fun fundraising opportunity the school partakes in to help support Make A Wish. Each teacher that wants to participate signs up one of their classes to compete. Classrooms go head to head to see who can raise the most money, but there is a catch: pennies equal positive points while nickels, dimes, quarters, and bills count as negative points. Teachers go through multiple rounds until only two teachers are left. At the end, awards are given out for the teacher that won, and for the teacher that raised the most money which majority of the time are two different teachers. The classroom that wins usually gets a prize in something like a pizza party.

Christmas Angels

StuCo sponsors children in need who would benefit from gift donations during the holiday season. Any club, sport, or class can "adopt" a child to buy gifts for. All gifts are given to Student Council, unwrapped, for donation.

Secret Santa

You can join a school wide Secret Santa sponsored by Link Crew! If interested, you'll fill out an interest form. Then you'll receive the form of another person on campus. Gift cap is roughly $5! On the day of the exchange, all members of Secret Santa will swap gifts!

Prom

Prom is the last dance of the school year and for Juniors and Seniors only. However, an underclassman can be brought to prom as a date! This is a formal dance and takes place off campus. Students get all dressed up for a night of dancing. Prom always has a theme which is released by StuCo. Many students anticipate the reveal of both the theme and the location!

Promposals

Have a great idea on how to ask your date to prom? Students can submit their romantic, innovative, and creative "promposals" to Student Council to be eligible for free tickets to the dance! Snap a photo and post it on Twitter. Students vote on their favorite and the winner is awarded 2 free tickets to prom!
