- TESOL - Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc. is the foremost organization on TESL/TEFL.
- MidTESOL - "The mission of Mid-America Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages is to strengthen the effective teaching of English in Iowa and Missouri to people whose native language is a language other than English while respecting their individual language rights."
- CAL - The Center for Applied Linguistics is an organization dedicated to "working to improve communication through better understanding of language and culture."
- DESE - The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's main website.
- SIL International - SIL serves language communities worldwide, building their capacity for sustainable language development, by means of research, translation, training and materials development.
- LSA - The Linguistics Society of America is an organization dedicated to advancing the scientific study of language. (See their list of Resolutions, Statements and Guides.)
- Education Advisory Board - The Education Advisory Board provides best practice research and practical advice to leaders of academic affairs, business affairs, student affairs, continuing, online, and professional education, and community colleges across North America.

- Dave's ESL Cafe - This site includes numerous resources on jobs in ESL and ESL resources for teachers and students.
- ESL Resource Center - This page includes man recourses on basic English skills that may benefit ESL students.
- Minimal Pairs for English RP - John Higgins's site with many minimal pair (note that these are based on standard British pronunciation, therefore, not all pairs may work in American teaching settings).
- The Sounds of Spoken Language - The University of Iowa maintains this often cited web resource. While this page has some great articulatory illustrations (and videos), their selection of sample words can be quite problematic in a classroom setting.

- TOEFL - The Test of English as a Foreign Language (run by Educational Testing Services). See the packet on understanding TOELF test scores. See also the iBT/Next Generation TOEFL Test Independent Speaking Rubrics (Scoring Standards).
- IELTS - The International English Language Testing System (run by the British Council and Cambridge ESOL). See the Teacher Resources.
- The Versant English Test(formerly PhonePass) - This is a computerized test of spoke English (run by Pearson.) See the FAQs: Test Administrators.
- ILR Speaking Skill Scale and other tests- The Interagency Language Roundtable (run by U.S. government agencies) tests language proficiency in everyday situations.
- ACTFL - American Council on The Teaching of Foreign Languages. See the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines.
- English Profile: CEFR for English - This is a specific English version of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) system.
- WIDA- World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment, or the WIDA Consortium, is a group of organizations that are using the same set of standards for the assessment of English Language Learners in K-12 settings. See the ACCESS for ELLs Interpretive Guide for Score Reports.
- ABE and CASAS - The Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) assessments are used by DESE's Adult Education and Literacy program.

- Standards for ESL-EFL Teachers of Adults - These are the Standards published by the TESOL organization for ESL/EFL teachers working with adult populations (the one-page PDF document is here).
- Common Core State Standards Initiative - This site includes PDFs of each of the various standards that comprise the Common Core.
- Common Core Works - This site provides and overview of the Common Core State Standards.
