Learning Objectives
3.2.1 Who can have power online?
3.2.2 What is an abuse of power?
3.2.3 Why do people abuse their power?
Everyone can have power online! Yes, you too! So let's find out how.
But first - what is power really?
In your groups, discuss ways that you have power online, and then hop onto the mind map and add two ways that people can have power online that haven't been submitted.
Roll for Person A and Person B
ODDS: has power
EVENS: doesn't have power
Roll for the current situation.
1: Flame war
2: Trolling comment/s
3-4: Rude comment
5: Critiquing comment
6: Kind constructive criticism
Roll for who has made the comment
1-3: Person A
4-6: Person B
Roll for how the comment section is behaving towards the original post/video.
1: Flame war
2-3: Aggressive and rude
4-5: Unconstructive criticism
6: Kind and supportive
Consider your combination and come up with a scenario as a team, real or imagined, that fits this story.
Tip: You can draw on examples from the mind map if you're getting stuck!
From there, examine what you know so far and consider the following;
Are either A or B abusing their power?
If neither A nor B has power in this situation, who does?
If there is a Flame War breaking out or a risk of it happening, how can you, as an observer, help keep it under control?
What can the person with power do in this situation to keep it under control?
How will this resolve? (Each of you can come up with a unique answer or collaborate on one answer.)
Next, use the mind map below which links to the other tasks in this WebQuest and answer the question posed for this task - Task 3.
