1v1 Showdown 2017
The webDiplomacy Inaugural 1v1 Showdown began in January 2017, and ended 11 months later on November 5th. It was the first 1v1 tournament on webDiplomacy, being announced shortly after the release of the France vs Austria and Germany vs Italy variants, and is the largest tournament webDiplomacy has hosted to date, with 110 participants and over 500 total games played.
It was won by xorxes, who also dominated the 1v1 Ghost-Ratings List over the latter half of the tournament. Another notable performance was that of Mercy, who was initially seeded 78th but finished in second place overall. Perhaps the most surprising results of all were those of the players from vDiplomacy, who were favourites going into the tournament on the basis that vDiplomacy had had these variants available for over 5 years, but who were all knocked out relatively early on.
