1v1 Showdown

Tournament Director - CaptainMeme

Format - Double Elimination

Map - Classic France vs Austria (FvA Showdown) / Classic Germany vs Italy (GvI Showdown)

Brief Overview:

This tournament pitches players against a single opponent in a set each round, playing one game as each nation. If the result is 1-1 or 0-0, a third game will be played with country selection randomised.

The victor of the set is the player who wins the most games, or, in the result of the third game being drawn, the player who played the weaker nation by statistics (France in FvA, Italy in GvI) in that game.

If a player loses two sets total, they are eliminated. As such, all players progress from the first round to the second, and after that any player who has lost a total of two sets will not progress to the next round. In general, players will be matched against other players with the same number of losses, but this may not be the case in all rounds.

Depending on remaining player numbers each round, some players may get a Bye - a round in which they face no opponent, and which is counted as a win for them. These will be distributed as fairly as possible.

Tournament Brackets will be determined using Challonge.

Additional Information:

Phase Length - The phase length of each game is 24h/phase, with readying up encouraged.

Pauses - Every player gets 1 week of Pause Time total over the course of the tournament. Players must PM the TD when they intend to use pause time. At any time, a pause of between 1 day and the player's remaining pause time may be requested and will be granted, and that time will be deducted from the player's remaining pause time.

NMRs & Civil Disorders - Since this is a 1v1 Tournament, NMRs will not be punished - losing a turn's worth of moves is punishment enough. A Civil Disorder in a game will count as a forfeit and a point to the other player. Likewise, failure to join a Tournament game will result in a forfeit of that game to the other player.

Draws - If a stalemate has been held for 2 game years, the TD may investigate the game to decide whether any progress can be made. This will involve asking both players what their plans for the game are, and examining the board to determine whether the position is a true stalemate. If the TD rules that no further progress can be made by either side, the game will be force drawn.

At the discretion of the TD, a game may also be force drawn if it is determined that neither side is progressing and has been in this state for a significant period of time, even if it is not at a true stalemate.
