There are many different ways that KINFOLK members can support other members by supporting BLKOUT. Process is vital to the success of our model - it is not just what is delivered but how and by who is also important. KINFOLK are the conduit through which we demonstrate the power of collective action to change the world for individuals.
KINFOLK support community management on the app, act as stewards and guides at our events, lead elements of projects, develop new interventions, befriend, advise and mentor, and secure opportunities for other members.
KINFOLK are expected to stay connected to BLKOUTUK by joining the HUB and consulting the dedicated Kinfolk Group at least 2x per week, and are invited to a weekly online (or in person at Brunch) meeting every Sunday evening.
KINFOLK commitments are reviewed every 12 weeks - we understand that our lives are often fast-paced and dynamic, and recognise this reality in how we structure the way we engage with volunteers. We believe that investing your time in community building should be manageable alongside your other responsibilities - a pleasure rather than a chore. It can sometimes be hard work, it should always feel like valued work.
We demand the best for our members; that means KINFOLK should be supported with relevant/timely information, appropriate resources, and skills development to deliver their best work for the benefit of the whole group.
We are developing an online induction programme to bridge twice yearly induction/training events, and an annual KINFOLK retreat to drive improvements to our interventions.
We are aiming to recruit 10-15 members before April 2022. Complete your expression of interest by recording a video-ask below
Opens 10th January
The board of a charity takes collective responsibility for the focus, public accountability, and effective management of the organisation and its resources. It is a great time to use your skills to support BLKOUT's mission
It is also a really sensitive time in which to be launching a new civil society organisation, and a crucial development stage as we shift from experimental to established, and as we increase our income, activity levels, and impact. New and existing members alike, will be asked to complete a skills audit and through a mix of independent and group study support each other in building our capacity to offer appropriate levels of support and challenge to the executive team. Those who choose to proceed with a nomination to join the Board should be aware of the level and quality of commitment that will be expected, and be clear about the support that BLKOUT will be able to provide
We are seeking 4-8 Black queer men to start programme this February. Express an interest by completing the video-ask below.
