Join this discussion about the Perkiomen Stormwater Initiative

Discussion Leader:

Crystal Gilchrist, AICP (Retired) for the office of Representative Joe Webster

Abstract:  Representative Joe Webster (PA-150) secured funding in the state budget for a comprehensive flood analysis of the Perkiomen Creek after Hurricane Ida in 2021. Since then, Montgomery County and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection have signed an agreement to undertake the Perkiomen Mapping and Flood Mitigation Plan.  This plan will include the four counties (Berks, Bucks, Lehigh and Montgomery Counties) in the 362 square mile Perkiomen watershed, and will include the creation of a hydrologic model of the full watershed and to allow mitigation alternatives to be tested for efficacy during large and severe storms. Recommendations will range from small, single lot techniques to more regional projects, depending on what the model shows. There will also be a robust public outreach component to the effort, both to gather information from the public and provide feedback on the study's progress and ultimate recommendations. Representative Joe Webster's office anticipates the study will take 12 to 18 months. Crystal Gilchrist, from Representative Webster’s office, will lead an informal discussion on the Perkiomen Stormwater Initiative over lunch.
