Wolves 2-1 Man City
For the first time this season, I think we can give credit to Wolves for their battling performance. A narrow defeat to Manchester City really isn't the worst of results and against slightly weaker sides, we could've won playing like that. For once, we looked much better defensively which could've had something to do with reverting to the back 5 formation which O'Neil has opted against for the start of the season until Sunday.
7 minutes in, Santi Bueno finds himself on the ball inside of our own half, shifts around the Man City player and does very well to play it out wide to Nelson Semedo who has space to drive into. He plays a near-perfect, low-driven pass to the far post which falls into Strand Larsen's path for practically an open goal. 1-0 Wolves!
Josko Gvardiol finds himself roughly20 yards out, practically on the edge of the box further over to the left, takes a touch and unleashes a sublime effort into the far top-right corner. Despite his efforts, Jose Sa is unable to stop the shot from going in but does manage to get a hand to it.
Wolves had managed to withhold pressure from Man City until the 95th minute where a corner was shipped in and John Stones rose above everyone else to direct the ball into the back of the Wolves net. There was controversy surrounding this goal as Bernardo Silva, who was stood in an offside position, was leaning into Jose Sa. A very similar situation to Wolves vs West Ham last season but a different decision made by the officials despite the similarities.
From when the last goal went in I was frustrated, as it was clear that Bernardo Silva was in an OFFSIDE position once the ball had made contact with John Stones head, he wasn't offside prior to the header. But Bernardo Silva was obstructing Jose Sa from getting into position to attempt to save John Stones' header which could of caused a different outcome to the game. But that's the Premier League for you!
Overall it was a good performance from the team I feel, really gave their all and managed to hold their own against Man City which isn't easy at all. Standout performers include Jose Sa, who was fantastic and saved us several times, Larsen, who didn't stop working, as well as Joao Gomes. The back 5 also seemed much more secure than the back 4 does, that's the way forward.
