Wolves take on the current champions, Manchester City, in our first game back after the International Break at Molineux Stadium in what most see as one of the toughest fixtures on the entire fixture schedule this season. Man City have had a strong start to the season, as they sit in 2nd place having not lost a game so far. Wolves on the other end sit at the very bottom of the Premier League table, yet to win a game in the Premier League this season. Could this be our season-turning point?
Wolves have had a rather disappointing start to this season, and despite the tough run of fixtures, would've hoped to have been more successful in their opening seven games. It was roughly this time last season that the two teams met last season at Molineux where Wolves came out victorious, sparking a run of several games without a loss. Although it seems unlikely, a win this Sunday could be a very important one and could spark some life back into the Molineux crowd, and give the players some momentum to take with them to Brighton the following weekend.
Since gaining promotion to the Premier League, following a title winning campaign in the Championship 2017/18, Wolves have had some fairly historic victories against Man City including a 2-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium and a famous 3-2 victory at Molineux Stadium after going 2 goals down in the same game.
With the pressure building up on Gary O'Neil and his job potentially at stake, it is a possibility that he will revert to a back 5 formation to attempt to keep Man City out and catch them on the break. With the absence of Yerson Mosquera for the remainder of the current season, this could be a great opportunity for Santi Bueno to step up and earn his place in the Starting XI.
Unfortuantely, I have to predict a Wolves loss for this fixture as I feel Man City will just be too strong for us. I think we will hold our own for the first half but once Man City score one, the floodgates will open and the game will end 3-1, with Matheus Cunha scoring the only goal for Wolves and Jack Grealish and Haaland x2 for Man City.
