November 2022: Wallingford Land Trust Acquires 14 Acres on Beseck Mountain

Wallingford, CT (November 18, 2022)- The Wallingford Land Trust (WLT) has expanded local outdoor adventure opportunities with their purchase of 14-acres of woodland on Mount Beseck in Wallingford. The blue-blazed Mattabesett Trail, a part of the 235-mile New England National Scenic Trail, crosses the western side of the property. This acquisition by the land trust will permanently protect the trail corridor, and will also offer hikers the opportunity to explore the rest of the WLT property. The WLT has ensured that this section of the Mattabesett Trail will be protected in this area from detours or interruption caused by development.

“The Wallingford Land Trust has stepped up to protect hiking and open space on beautiful Beseck Mountain. We are so thankful for their partnership and their commitment to land protection,” said Clare Cain, Trails Director for Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA). This 14-acres of forest will be conserved and protected for passive recreational use by the public. To view a map of the property, please visit https://tinyurl.com/wlt-beseck or visit  www.WallingfordLandTrust.org for more information on this acquisition, to learn about WLT’s other properties, and to support their important work.

The Mattabesett Trail is part of the New England National Scenic Trail (NET), as well as an integral part of the 825-mile Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail System managed by the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA), a nonprofit conservation organization located in Middlefield, Connecticut.
