Rudolf Steiner taught that evil people gradually decline until, if they are irredeemable, they become subhuman nature spirits. 

"Such souls lose the possibility of incarnation and find no other opportunity ... [T]here are no more bodies bad enough [to house them] ... Beings that stay behind at such stages appear in a later epoch as subordinate nature spirits." — Rudolf Steiner, NATURE SPIRITS (Rudolf Steiner Press, 1995), p. 70. 

Steiner also taught that subhuman “demons in disguise” are abroad in the land. 

"Quite a number of people have been born since the nineties [i.e., the 1890s] without an I, that is, they are not reincarnated, but are human forms filled with a sort of natural demon. There are quite a large number of older people going around who are actually not human beings, but are only natural; they are human beings only in regard to their form. We cannot, however, create a school for demons.” — Rudolf Steiner, FACULTY MEETINGS WITH RUDOLF STEINER (Anthroposophic Press, 1998), p. 649.

On the other hand, Steiner taught of superhumans, supermen. These are spiritual beings more advanced than humans, beings who have evolved to a condition higher than our own. Here are two extended passages in which Steiner discusses supermen. After we examine them, we will look at a third such passage and consider its implications for Waldorf schooling.

“[T]he ancient Egyptians still remembered a time when the leading personalities of the nation were clearly conscious of their connection with what are called gods, angels, or dhyanic beings.[1] Now what sort of beings were these, who were not incarnated in a human form of flesh and blood, but who influenced mankind ...  They were man's predecessors, advanced beyond the human stage. [2]

“There is in these days much misuse of a word which may in this connection be applied in its true meaning, the word ‘Superman.’ [3] If we really wish to speak of ‘Supermen,’ it is these beings who may rightly be so called. Human during the Moon-period, the planetary stage preceding our Earth, they had now outgrown humanity. [4] They were only able to appear in an etheric body to clairvoyants. It was thus that they came down to earth from spiritual worlds and ruled here even as late as post-Atlantean times. [5]

“These beings had, and still have, the remarkable quality of not being obliged to think; in fact, we might even say that they cannot think at all as man does. [6] How then does man think? More or less in this way. He starts from a certain point and says, ‘I understand this or that,’ and from that point he then tries to understand various other things. If this were not the method of human thought, school-life would not be such a difficult period for many. We cannot learn mathematics in a day, because we have to begin at a certain point and go slowly forwards. This takes a long time. We cannot survey a whole world of thought at a glance, for human thought runs its course in time. A system of thought does not enter the mind in a flash. We have to make an effort and have to exert ourselves, in order to find the sequence of thought. The beings described above are without this human peculiarity. A far-reaching train of thought comes into their minds with the same rapidity with which an animal makes up its mind that it will snatch at something which its instinct tells it is eatable. Instinct and reflective consciousness are in no wise distinct in these beings; they are one and the same. Just as animals have instinct at their stage of evolution, in their kingdom, so these dhyanic beings or angels have direct spiritual thought and conceptions. By virtue of this instinctive inner life of conception they are of an essentially different nature from human beings...

“Besides those predecessors of man, the true supermen, who had completed their humanity on the Moon and had become angels, there are, however, other beings who did not perfect their evolution on the Moon .[7] The beings called dhyanic in Oriental mysticism and angelic in Christian esotericism, consummated their evolution on the ancient Moon, and when man began his earthly career were already a stage higher than he was. But there were other beings who had not finished their evolution on the ancient Moon, any more than the higher categories of Luciferic beings had finished theirs. When the Earth-state of our planet began, man as we have described him was not the only being there. He felt also the inspiration of divinely-spiritual beings; otherwise, like a child, he would have been unable to progress. Accordingly, besides these childlike human beings, and acting through them, there must have been also present on the earth beings who had completed their evolution on the Moon. But between these and man there were yet other beings who had not finished their evolution on the Moon — beings of a higher order than man, because, even as early as the ancient Moon-period, they might have become angels or dhyanic beings. At that time, however, they had not come to full maturity. They were angels in a backward state, yet they far outdistanced man as regards everything which man called his own. Generally speaking, they are beings occupying the lowest grade in the ranks of Luciferic spirits. They hold a middle position between men and angels, and with them begins the kingdom of Luciferic spirits.

“Now it is extremely easy to get an erroneous idea of these spirits. We might ask why did the divine spirits, the regents of good, allow them to fall short, and thereby admit the Luciferic principle into humanity? And it might further be objected on this ground, that surely the good gods turned everything to good. This question is obvious. And another misunderstanding which might arise, is expressed in the idea that these are ‘evil’ spirits. Both ideas are merely misunderstandings; for these spirits are by no means purely ‘evil,’ although the origin of evil in human nature is due to them. [8] Since they stand midway between man and superman, they are, in a sense, more perfect than men. In all the qualities which human beings have to acquire for themselves, these spirits have attained a high standard, and they only differ from man's predecessors described above in being able to incarnate in human bodies whilst man is being evolved on Earth. This is because they did not consummate their humanity on the Moon. [9]

“The dhyanic or angelic beings proper, who are the great inspirers of humanity, and to whom the Egyptian referred as being still their teachers, did not appear in human bodies. They could only manifest themselves through human beings. On the other hand, the beings in a mid-position between men and angels were still able, in very early times to incarnate in human bodies. Hence amongst the human race inhabiting the earth in the Lemurian and Atlantean periods, we find people whose innermost soul-nature was that of an angel in a backward state. [10] Not only ordinary people were going about the earth, who through their successive incarnations [11] were to arrive at the ideal of humanity, but beings who only outwardly appeared like them. These had to bear a human body, for the outward form of a human being in the flesh is dependent on earthly conditions. Especially in more ancient times did it happen that beings belonging to the lowest category of Luciferic individualities were present amongst men. And so at the same time that the angel-beings were working on human civilization through man, Lucifer-beings were also incarnated and founding human civilizations in various places. [12] And when in the old folk legends [13] it is related that in some place there lived a great man who was the founder of a civilization we are not to understand that such a Lucifer-being was necessarily the vehicle of evil but rather that human civilization was to receive countless blessings from him.” — Rudolf Steiner, THE SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE OF MANKIND (The Anthroposophical Society in Great Britain, 1921), lecture 2, GA 15.

“You will remember the passage in the book OCCULT SCIENCE [written by one R. Steiner] dealing with the time when the human souls ascended to the planets and afterwards descended once more to earth-existence. I spoke of how the Mars-men, the Jupiter-men and the others descended again to earth. [14] Now an event of great significance came to pass at the end of the seventies of last century [i.e., the 1870s]. It is an event that can be described only in the light of facts which are revealed to us in the spiritual world. Whereas in the days of old Atlantis human beings came down to the earth from Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and so on — that is to say, beings of soul were drawn into the realm of earth-existence — since the end of the seventies of last century, other Beings — not of the human order — have been descending to the earth for the purposes of their further development. [15] From cosmic realms beyond the earth they come down to the earth and enter into a definite relationship with human beings. Since the eighties of the nineteenth century, super-earthly Beings have been seeking to enter the sphere of earth-existence. Just as the Vulcan-men were the last to come down to the earth so now Vulcan Beings are actually coming into the realm of earthly existence. [16] Super-earthly Beings are already here, and the fact that we are able to have a connected body of Spiritual Science at all today is due to the circumstance that Beings from beyond the earth are bringing the messages from the spiritual world down into earth-existence. [17]

“But, speaking generally, what is the attitude adopted by the human race? The human race is behaving, if I may put it so very shabbily to these Beings who are appearing from the cosmos and coming down — slowly and by degrees, it is true — to the earth. [18] The human race does not concern itself with them; it ignores their existence. And it is this which will plunge the earth into tragic conditions, for in the course of the next centuries more and more Spiritual Beings will be among us — Beings whose language we ought to understand. And this is possible only if we try to grasp what comes from them: namely, the substance and content of Spiritual Science. They want to give it to us and they want us to act in the sense of Spiritual Science. Their desire is that Spiritual Science shall be translated into social behaviour and action on the earth. [19]

“I repeat, then, that since the last third of the nineteenth century Spiritual Beings from the cosmos have been coming into our own sphere of existence. Their home is the sphere lying between the moon and Mercury, but they are already pressing forward into the realm of earth-existence and seeking to gain a foothold there. [20] And they will be able to find it if human beings are imbued with the thought of their existence. This can also be expressed as I expressed it just now, by saying that our shadowy intellect must be quickened to life by the pictures of Spiritual Science. [21] We are speaking of concrete fact when we say: Spiritual Beings are seeking to come down into earth-existence and ought to be willingly received. Catastrophe after catastrophe must ensue, and earthly life will fall at length into social chaos, if opposition is maintained in human existence to the advent of these Beings. They desire nothing else than to be the advance-guards of what will happen to earth-existence when the moon is once again united with the earth. [22]

“Today people may consider it comparatively harmless to elaborate only those automatic, lifeless thoughts which arise in connection with the mineral world and the mineral nature of plant, animal and man. [23] Materialists revel in such thoughts which are — well — thoughts and nothing more. But try to imagine what will happen if men go on unfolding no other kinds of thoughts until the time is reached in the eighth millennium for the moon-existence to unite again with the earth. These Beings of whom I have spoken will gradually come down to the earth. Vulcan Beings, ‘Supermen’ of Vulcan, ‘Supermen’ of Venus, of Mercury, of the Sun, will unite with this earth-existence. But if human beings persist in nothing but opposition to them, earth-existence will pass over into chaos in the course of the next few thousand years.

“It will be quite possible for the men of earth, if they so wish, to develop a more and more automatic form of intellect — but that can also happen amid conditions of barbarism. [24] Full and complete manhood, however, cannot come to expression in such a form of intellect, and men will have no relationship to the Beings who would fain come towards them in earth-existence. And all those Beings of whom men have such an erroneous conception because the shadowy intellect can only grasp the mineral nature, the crudely material nature in the minerals, plants and animals, nay even in the human kingdom itself — all these thoughts which have no reality will in a trice become substantial realities when the moon unites again with the earth. And from the earth there will spring forth a terrible brood of beings, a brood of automata of an order of existence lying between the mineral and the plant kingdoms, and possessed of an overwhelming power of intellect. [25]

“This swarm will seize upon the earth, will spread over the earth like a network of ghastly, spider-like creatures, of an order lower than that of plant-existence, but possessed of overpowering wisdom. These spidery creatures will be all interlocked with one another, and in their outward movements they will imitate the thoughts that men have spun out of the shadowy intellect that has not allowed itself to be quickened by the new form of Imaginative Knowledge by Spiritual Science. All the thoughts that lack substance and reality will then be endowed with being.” — Rudolf Steiner, “A Picture of Earth Evolution in the Future”, THE GOLDEN BLADE, 1960, GA 204.

Well.

To conclude, let’s circle back and consider some of what we have just seen, perhaps penetrating to deep levels. The following is reprinted from the “Daily Quotes” page here at Waldorf Watch. I have made few changes, primarily just renumbering the endnotes to be consistent with the notes on this page. The text we will examine is a variant of passages we have already seen.

Is there any valid basis for Waldorf education? The answer, I'm afraid, is no. Steiner said that Waldorf education is based on Anthroposophy (his occult body of teachings, which he also called "spiritual science"), and he said that we have reliable spiritual science only because superhuman beings — such as supermen from Vulcan — are bringing us messages from the spirit realm. This is an astonishingly weak foundation on which to build anything. Perhaps there is a spirit realm. Perhaps superhumans visit the Earth all the time. But there is no Vulcan. Hence there are no Vulcan supermen bringing us messages. If Anthroposophy depends on the reality of Vulcan supermen, then there is no basis for Anthroposophy, meaning there is no basis for Waldorf education.

What we are discussing here is extremely weird and complicated, I know. But I am not making it up. These are Steiner's own teachings.

Let's take it a step at a time.

Vulcan is a hypothetical planet, nearer to the Sun than Mercury. Scientists once believed that such a planet existed, but they discarded the idea long ago. We know today that there is no Vulcan. But Vulcan looms large in Steiner's teachings. [See “Vulcan”.]

Here is a brief statement of Steiner’s teachings about Vulcan and its connection to spiritual science: 

“Vulcan beings are now actually entering this earth existence ... And it is thanks to the fact that these beings from beyond the earth are bringing messages down into this earthly existence that it is possible at all to have a comprehensive spiritual science today ... The beings I have spoken about will descend gradually to the earth. Vulcan beings, Vulcan supermen, Venus supermen, Mercury supermen, sun supermen, and so on will unite themselves with earth existence. Yet, if human beings persist in their opposition to them, this earth existence will pass over into chaos in the course of the next few thousand years.” — Rudolf Steiner, MATERIALISM AND THE TASK OF ANTHROPOSOPHY (SteinerBooks, 1987), p. 261...

OK? Steiner says that Vulcan, in some sense, exists. And beings from Vulcan are coming to Earth, bringing us the messages upon which spiritual science stands.

You may already get the drift: Steiner's doctrines are loco. But let's slow down even further to give the guy a chance. Here is the same quotation again, this time given at length. Steiner seems to say that Vulcan exists in the solar system today, perhaps not as a planet but as a “sphere” (a term he used to denote the area of the solar system bounded by the orbit of a planet). This gets a bit confusing, since the “sphere” of Vulcan would be the area bounded by the orbit of the planet Vulcan — but does Vulcan exist as a planet? And, come to that, do the planets orbit the Sun? Steiner sometimes said that they do but he also sometimes said that they don’t. [See “Deception”.]

Be all that as it may, here’s what Steiner said about "Vulcan men" and "Vulcan supermen." Background: At an early stage of life on Earth, human souls fled to the other planets. (Weren't you taught this in school?) Then, during the age of Atlantis, these souls returned to Earth — they came from planets such as Saturn, Mars, and Vulcan (see the reference, below, to “Vulcan-men”). Moreover, Steiner said that “Vulcan Beings” or “’Supermen’ of Vulcan” are coming to Earth today. Where are they coming from? Vulcan. [26]

I turn the microphone over to R. Steiner:

“Whereas in ancient Atlantean times [i.e., while we lived on Atlantis] these human beings descended to earth from Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and the other planets — and it was therefore a matter of human soul beings entering the earth existence then — now a time is beginning when beings who are not human are coming down to earth from cosmic regions beyond. These beings are not human but depend for the further development of their existence on coming to earth and on entering here into relationships with men. [27]

“Thus, since the eighties of the nineteenth century, heavenly beings are seeking to enter this earth existence. Just as the Vulcan men were the last to come down to earth,  so Vulcan beings are now actually entering this earth existence. Heavenly beings are already here in our earth existence. And it is thanks to the fact that beings from beyond the earth are bringing messages down into this earthly existence that it is possible at all to have a comprehensive spiritual science today. [28]

“Taken as a whole, however, how does the human race behave? If I may say so, the human race behaves in a cosmically rude way toward the beings who are appearing from the cosmos on earth, albeit, to begin with, only slowly. Humanity takes no notice of them, ignores them. It is this that will lead the earth into increasingly tragic conditions. For in the course of the next few centuries, more and more spirit beings will move among us whose language we ought to understand. We shall understand it only if we seek to comprehend what comes from them, namely, the contents of spiritual science. This is what they wish to bestow on us. They want us to act according to spiritual science; they want this spiritual science to be translated into social action and the conduct of earthly life. [29]

“Since the last third of the nineteenth century, we are actually dealing with the influx of spirit beings from the universe. Initially, these were beings dwelling in the sphere between moon and Mercury, but they are closing in upon earth, so to say, seeking to gain a foothold in earthly life through human beings imbuing themselves with thoughts of spiritual beings in the cosmos. This is another way of describing what I outlined earlier when I said that we must call our shadowy intellect to life with the pictures of spiritual science. That is the abstract way of describing it. The description is concrete when we say: Spirit beings are seeking to come down into earth existence and must be received. Upheaval upon upheaval will ensue, and earth existence will at length arrive at social chaos if these beings descended and human existence were to consist only of opposition against them. For these beings wish to be nothing less than the advance guard of what will happen to earth existence when the moon reunites once again with earth. [30]

“Nowadays it may appear comparatively harmless to people when they think only those automatic, lifeless thoughts that arise through comprehension of the mineral world itself and the mineral element's effects in plant, animal, and man. Yes, indeed, people revel in these thoughts; as materialists, they feel good about them, for only such thoughts are conceived today. But imagine that people were to continue thinking in this way, unfolding nothing but such thoughts until the eighth millennium when moon existence will once more unite with the life of the earth. What would come about then? The beings I have spoken about will descend gradually to the earth. Vulcan beings, Vulcan supermen, Venus supermen, Mercury supermen, sun supermen, and so on will unite themselves with earth existence. Rudolf Steiner’s teachings, Anthroposophy, represent his version of Theosophy. Both Theosophists and Anthroposophists call their systems “spiritual science” — that is, they claim that their systems present verifiable, objective information about the spirit realm. According to Steiner, spiritual science is possible only because beings such as the superhuman beings of Vulcan are bringing us messages. If this impresses you, you may be ripe for joining Steiner’s cult. Otherwise, you may agree with me that Steiner’s statement reveals the complete falsehood of Anthroposophy. There is no Vulcan, hence there are no “Vulcan beings, Vulcan supermen” coming to Earth. By extension, then, there is no basis for “spiritual science” — aka, Anthroposophy. And, since Anthroposophy is the basis of Waldorf education, there is no valid basis for Waldorf education. QED.

(Oh, OK, I know. It is probably unfair to totally blow off Waldorf education because Steiner said completely nutty things about Vulcan. But you get the drift. Would you send your child to a school run by people who accept the totally nutty things Steiner said about Vulcan and many other matters?)

P.S. Steiner tries to scare us. He sometimes resorted to fire-and-brimstone railings, and he does that here. If we don’t believe him about “Vulcan beings, Vulcan supermen” and all the rest, “this earth existence will pass over into chaos.” I’m not worried. Are you?

The real danger that Waldorf schools represent is that people will slip back into medieval superstition and ignorance. For this is what “spiritual science” is. Steiner spun grotesque, stupid fantasies — and some people believe him. That’s their right. But don’t let them “educate” your child.

[1] In Eastern religious tradition, “dhyana” is a profound state of contemplation beyond thought.

[2] Steiner taught that the supermen above us were once human. They became super by passing beyond the human stage.

[3] The philosopher Nietzsche wrote of supermen. But he meant humans who are superior to other humans, whereas Steiner generally meant gods who are above the human stage:

"Human during the Moon-period, the planetary stage preceding our Earth, they had now outgrown humanity."

[4] Steiner taught that we have evolved through three phases, Old Saturn, Old Sun, and Old Moon. We are now in the Present Earth phase of evolution. The beings whom we call angels were human during Old Moon, but now they are superhumans, Angels, or gods one level above humans. Other gods stand at higher levels.

[5] These superhmans do not have physical bodies; their lowest body is the “etheric” body. [See “Incarnation”.] Clairvoyants such as Steiner can see the superhumans. The superhumans have been involved in Earthly affairs since the time when we humans lived on the continent of Atlantis. In a sense, they “rule” human life.

[6] Thinking is very nearly pointless, Steiner said. It is useful at the lowly physical level of existence, but true knowledge of the spiritual realm comes from higher forms of cognition (essentially, levels of clairvoyance). Superhumans do not need to think — they know.

[7] “Abnormal” beings fail to evolve as rapidly as other beings of their kind. The normal beings advance, the abnormal ones stay behind. There are beings who are superior to man but inferior to the supermen (i.e., the Angels). These are beings who, if they had evolved normally, would today be Angels, but they lagged behind. They are able to occupy human bodies whereas the supermen (Angels) cannot. These abnormal spirits are “backward angels” of “Luciferic spirits” (i.e., spirits under the command of Lucifer).

[8] Steiner was somewhat inconsistent on this point, but in general he taught that “evil” beings are not really evil — they are just evolutionary laggards, and they serve various productive purposes. They contribute to the divine cosmic plan. Note, however, that Steiner did not deny the real existence of evil. The backward angels seem “evil” (note the quote marks), but they are not really evil. However, they contribute to evil (note the absence of quote marks) in human beings.

[9] These Luciferic beings were human on the Moon, like the other Angels were, but they failed to complete their human stage of evolution on the Moon and thus they are now higher than us but lower than the superhumans.

[10] During our evolution on the continents of Lemuria and Atlantis, some “people” were actually Luciferic beings in human bodies.

[11] All beings evolve. We evolve through the process of reincarnation, returning in each successive life as higher or lower beings than we were in previous lives.

[12] The real supermen, the Angels, work through humans (by inspiring and leading us), whereas the Luciferic beings actually occupy human bodies and seem to be human although they are not. 

[13] Steiner taught that myths and legends are generally true. Here he says that legends about human beings who are the founders of civilizations actually tell us about the activities of Luciferic beings inhabiting human bodies.

[14] Things got really bad while we lived on Lemuria; therefore many humans fled to other planets. When things seemed better on Atlantis, these humans returned to Earth.

[15] Not only humans came down from the other planets; other beings also came down to the Earth. They needed to do so for their own further evolution.

[16] Vulcan is a nonexistent planet that Steiner seems to have thought really existed. In any case, Steiner taught that humans who had fled to Vulcan during the Lemurian period were the first to return to Earth during the Atlantean period. Here he also says that superhumans from Vulcan have been the first superhumans to descend to Earth.

[17] This is a significant point. Steiner says that “spiritual science” (i.e., Theosophy or Anthroposophy) is possible only because supermen have come down to the Earth.

[18] A messy sentence. Steiner is saying that most humans have not welcomed the superhumans. We have treated them shabbily; we have ignored them.

[19] The superhumans want to lead us to spiritual science (by which Steiner means his own teachings, his version of Theosophy: Anthroposophy). If we do not receive the message of the superhumans (i.e., Steiner’s message, Anthroposophy), we will suffer horrible consequences.

[20] The superhumans come from the part of the solar system between the Moon and Mercury. This is a confusing statement. The sphere of the Moon, technically, is bound to the sphere of the Earth. The sphere of Mercury is the area of the solar system within the orbit of Mercury. The planet between the Earth/Moon and Mercury is Venus, and thus the sphere of Venus encloses the sphere of Mercury. But in occult teachings, the names of Mercury and Venus are often reversed. Moreover, an additional planet is often identified within the cosmic spheres of Mercury/Venus/Earth-Moon: Vulcan. In some occult teachings, Vulcan and the Moon are reflections/disguises for one another. In any event, Steiner clearly tells us that some supermen come to Earth from Vulcan. You can bank on that.

[21] As we saw previously, Steiner considered intellect shadowy and lowly. [See, e.g., "Thinking".] True cognition, he said, comes from pictures or “imaginations” of the spirit realm obtained through forms of clairvoyance.

[22] The Moon came out of the Earth, Steiner taught, and it will reunite with the Earth. (Science tells us something else, but never mind.) If we do not heed the superhumans and Steiner, horrors await us when the Moon returns.

[23] Steiner is referring to thoughts we have due to the use of our brains. The brain is a physical (“mineral”) thing and as such it cannot have real, spiritual, living thoughts.

[24] People who think with their brains become automatons, Steiner said — in effect, robots made out of meat. The whole purpose of Anthroposophy, in a sense, is to save us from thinking like robots. 

“The task of Anthroposophy is not simply to replace a false view of the world with a correct one. That is a purely theoretical requirement. The nature of Anthroposophy is to strive not only toward another idea, but toward other deeds, namely, to tear the spirit and soul from the physical body. The task is to raise the spirit-soul into the realm of the spiritual, so that the human being is no longer a thinking and feeling automaton ... Such things as the pedagogy of the Waldorf School can arise from a recognition that humanity must turn toward spiritual activity, and not simply from a change in theory. We should work out of that spirit.” — Rudolf Steiner, FACULTY MEETINGS WITH RUDOLF STEINER - Foundations of Waldorf Education (Anthroposophic Press, 1998), p. 115.

[25] Our thoughts create realities, Steiner taught. If we think with our physical brains, our thoughts will stay at the physical, mineral level, and eventually they will create horrid physical, mineral monstrosities.

[26] Reading Steiner is a bit like having a root canal. I will do my best to ease the pain by providing paragraph-by-paragraph paraphrases. I will also toss in some supplementary info.

[27] The third phase of our evolution on Earth occurred on the continent of Lemuria. Things got dicey during our Lemuria years, so most humans fled to other planets. After Lemuria sank, the survivors moved to Atlantis, and — thinking things were getting better — the humans who had gone to other planets returned to Earth. We now live in the post-Atlantis period, and now superhuman beings are coming from the various planets to the Earth. They are doing this because they need to do so in order to evolve to yet higher states of divinity — by entering into relationships with Earth humans, they will improve themselves.

[28] Since the 1890s, superhuman beings have been coming to Earth from the heavens. Back during the Atlantis period, humans who had gone to Vulcan were the first returnees among the humans who had fled from the Earth. Likewise, today Vulcan super-humans are the first heavenly beings to come down to the Earth. Various heavenly beings (superhumans) are already here on Earth, and it is because they have brought us messages from the spirit realm that today we can have “spiritual science” — that is, Anthroposophy, the objective “science” that describes the spirit realm.

[29] Sadly, most humans have been rude to the superhuman visitors. Mainly, people have ignored these wondrous visitors. This will lead to tragedy for the human race. More and more superhumans are coming down, bringing us the knowledge contained in spiritual science (i.e., Rudolf Steiner’s teachings). The superhumans want us to accept spiritual science (i.e., Rudolf Steiner’s teachings). If we don’t, woe betide.

[30] Since about 1860, there has been a large influx of superhumans from the planets to Earth. (Technically, the superhumans come from the “spheres” of the planets, not the planets themselves. For instance, the sphere of Mars encompasses all of the solar system within the orbit of Mars.) The first superhumans to descend, as we said before, came from the Vulcan sphere. Superhumans gain a foothold on Earth by being received into the thoughts of the good people who do not rudely ignore them. The good people (spiritual scientists, i.e., Rudolf Steiner’s followers) transcend “shadowy intellect” to create images (or “imaginations”) or pictures of the spirit realm. (This is a bit vague, but to be clear: Superhuman spiritual beings are coming to Earth and we must receive them. If not, there will be BIG trouble. These superhuman beings are preparing the way for our future evolution, when the Moon will merge into the Earth. If we ignore them (i.e., if we ignore Rudolf Steiner), woe betide.)

[31] People nowadays — “modern” types — think in a dead way; they think with their physical (mineral) brains. (Contrast this with the spiritual “imaginations” of Anthroposophists.) People nowadays are materialists who think materialistically (i.e., with their brains), and they actually revel in such thinking. (Woe betide.) If people keep thinking in this dead, brainy way, there will be hell to pay when the Moon reunites with the Earth. The superhumans from Vulcan, Venus, the Sun, etc., will have come down and united themselves with the Earth. If we still rudely ignore them, the Earth will be plunged into chaos lasting thousands of years. (And won’t you be sorry then, all you rude jerks who didn’t listen to me, Rudolf Steiner?)
