This conservation initiative is the first long-term ecological monitoring effort on the desert-dwelling Angolan giraffe in north-western Namibia.
Namibia’s northwest is one of the last remaining wildernesses on the continent and home to a plethora of desert-adapted wildlife including elephant, black rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, mountain zebra, oryx, springbok, and of course, giraffe.
They also offer a "Adopt-a-Giraffe" program through which you can adopt a giraffe through your donation - how cool is that!
In 2018 Operi Tjipuka and her husband Sydney Tjipuka raised funds to provide a young and talented barefooted sprinter with a pair of spikes. Since then they have been donating running shoes to underprivileged athletes - many of whom have gone on to be successful sprinters and runners!
In January 2024 the WSRC supported their Foundation by sourcing and donating our previously loved shoes to those in need.
We look forward toward future donation drives and helping out where we can.
The WSRC recently donated running gear (shoes, hydration packs etc) to the Your Turn Move Foundation that has started the White Nossob Running Club in Witvlei.
WSRC members in November 2022 also assisted in the route determination and marking of the first White Nossob Trail Run in Witvlei.
