Erik "Kiss My Calves" Salamon
The Wednesday Social Running Crew was born on the 4th of July 2018 as the Kiss My Run Crew.
After moving back to Namibia from Cape Town, inspired by Social Running Crews around the world (very different to Running Clubs), founder Erik Salamon decided to start his own Crew. The Crew would meet in the parking lot outside Joe’s Beerhouse to run a 5km loop around Eros.

The Crew of three quickly grew to many some days and not so many on other days, but Wednesday runs became A Thing. After a while the Crew decided to mix things up and alternate between Eros, IJG Trails and Avis Dam. In search of a venue with parking and place to share some beverages and banter after runs, the Crew found a home at Eagles Beer Garden, Avis.
After moving to Eagles the vibe before, during and after runs became more Social and the name changed to Wednesday Social. As well as the weekly runs the infamous WhatsApp group has always been centred around creating a space for runners in Windhoek to feel safe, share gees and probably have fun. And that will always be the spirit of Wednesday Social.
Remember that time when Covid locked us down and required social distancing? The WSRC persevered and introduced a number of challenges in which runners could participate virtually as part of Wednesday Social Distancing.
2021 - 2023
During this period we considered formalizing the Wednesday Social and discussions were held on whether we should or should not. The decision was made that we should formalize, but just like a hill sprint session we procrastinated a bit in doing it... Until March 2023 when it finally happened: the Constitution was signed and the WSRC was legally brought into being!
To promote, foster and maintain a spirit of community amongst the members of WSRC.
To create a safe and inclusive social environment where we can share our enjoyment of running, community and nature.
Although we support all forms of running, we mainly do trail running and some of us do ultra trail running.
Everyone is welcome!
THE UNDERLYING PIRATE THEME
Erik has always insisted that Wednesday Social is a “Crew” and not a “Club”, although no one has ever really been able to understand why. During the pandemic Julie (and millions around the world) became obsessed with Sea Shanties and started referring to the crew as a “Pirate Crew”. After that, several jokes, puns and even a whole song was created to ensure that the underlying pirate theme never left the crew.
OUR HOME BASE - EAGLES BEER GARDEN, AVIS
Eagles Beer Garden has served as our Pirate Port since 2019.
After sailing the trails we come to anchor and splice the main brace from their excellent menu.
