Production History

The Scar Test was first produced in 2017 after having been workshopped in 2015. The play was originally commissioned by Untold Arts. The Scar Test was praised during its run at the Soho Theatre in London as well as during the touring production. The all-female cast was applauded for their "range and versatility" by some reviewers, while others were dissatisfied that there weren't men to play staff roles. Several reviewers were left wanting more answers from the play. An equal number recognized that the unknowns set the tone for this play and created a "haunting" effect. Khalil's writing was praised for being "well worth experiencing" and the intimate staging at Soho caused a lasting impression on audience members. The production was directed by Sara Joyce and starred Janet Etuk, Nadia Nadif, Shazia Nicholls, Rebecca Omogbehin, Lucy Sheen.
