Vulpes Vulpes Necator
The Sierra Nevada Red Fox (vulpes vulpes necator), are generally found in extremely high mountain areas, usually above 5,000 feet in the southern Cascades and 7,000 feet in central Sierra Nevada. The foxes change their habitats seasonally, which include alpine and barren areas, subalpine forests, red fir forests, lodgepole pine forests, mixed conifer forests, and meadows. Sierra Nevada red foxes are ranked as endangered on the Fish and Wildlife conservation system. These animals are endangered due to habitat destruction and climate change. As of 2022, we only have 50 red foxes left.
