I work with Drs. Keith Butcher and Detra Johnson to understand what aspiring principals do and learn during the internships.
We have presented three papers at AERA and UCEA and have a new study on how aspiring leaders interact with students during their internships that we presented at the 2025 AERA annual meeting in Denver.

My dissertation focused in part on principal turnover and its consequences for schools. Since then, I have continued to examine turnover and, more recently, am working on a project with Dr. Alison Wilson and Dr. Toni Templeton to describe who has become a school leader in the Houston Independent School District during the state takeover.
I have collaborated with several colleagues to study how best to prepare K-12 principals.
I work with Drs. Kathleen Cunningham and Chad Lochmiller to understand how to prepare principals to lead for high-quality STEM teaching and learning.
