On 10 March 2023, the Constitution of the Visionary Syndicate of Edinburgh starts to be written. This constitution is only concerned with the original structure of the Visionary Syndicate of Edinburgh as a syndicate, formulated by the Syndicate Framework - developed by the founder of the VSE.
The formal name of the syndicate shall be 'The Visionary Syndicate of Edinburgh for Futuristic Social Media, Networking, and Leisure', but the colloquial name of the syndicate shall be 'The Visionary Syndicate of Edinburgh'. The Visionary Syndicate of Edinburgh can be abbreviated as 'VSE'.
The objectives of the syndicate shall be:
To advocate alternative social media platforms that the Visionary Syndicate of Edinburgh endorses known as The Visionary Platforms to primarily university students.
To support university students in the adoption and use of their new social media platforms
To organise and host regular social events.
To grow the number of members by providing multiple membership statuses with flexibility in mind
To expand internationally as soon as possible
Membership shall be open to:
StudentsĀ
AlumniĀ
Academics
These 3 groups of members must be from any university, further education college, polytechnic, vocational college, and other educational institutions that serve students over the age of 16.
All members shall be entitled to attend all society events, in the event of a limited space for an event, the members allowed to attend will be decided on a first come first served basis.
All members shall be entitled to society privileges such as discount cards for pubs, as arranged by the Administrative Members.
All members shall be entitled to attend society meetings and provide suggestions of events and motions they would like to be passed.
Members must not act in a manner which brings the syndicate into disrepute and must act in good faith to the syndicate.
Members must not cause damage to syndicate property or venues for syndicate events.
The Administrative Members may, at their discretion, issue a warning to any member or guest who disturbs a syndicate screening or event, causes distress or harm to other members, or brings the syndicate into disrepute.
If the warning is ignored that person may be ejected from the venue; barred from attending future screenings and events; and in the case of members may have their membership revoked with no refund.
As outlined in the Syndicate Framework, a syndicate is a self-organising society made of primarily students to promote a shared interest.
A syndicate has a more fluid structure than a regular society.
The Visionary Syndicate of Edinburgh acts as the unified body for similar activities in other universities in the UK and around the world. Each Visionary Syndicate in an university, higher education institution, or a student city is autonomous to some degree, following the framework established by the Visionary Syndicate of Edinburgh - the Visionary Syndicate Framework.
The syndicate will be non-political in that it will not espouse the cause of any political party.
The syndicate may organise events in conjunction with political organisations but the role of the co-sponsor must be made clear to the membership, and they may if they wish seek to cancel the event in Administrative Members or by an ordinary resolution.
The syndicate may have sponsorship or links with commercial organisations, but in no way does the society represent these organisations or their views.
The syndicate shall uphold and maintain its policy on the equality of opportunity as defined in the Equal Opportunities Section within the Syndicate Framework.
Any motion to alter the Constitution will have to be supported by two-thirds of the members present at the ...
